On the podium in Bonaire with the boys

After the PWA event in Costa Brava, I continue my travel and this time in Bonaire in the caraib south Island to race in the Junior World Slalom Championship with the secret hope to finish on the podium.

Spot arrival some days before the beginning of the regatta I was entitled to a very warm reception and, with the other competitors, we were accommodated in very attractive villas, I am very happy to found my Hawaiian friends Zane and Connors that I didn’t see since the photoshoting in Maui.

The days before the competition I was able to train on the magnificent Sorobon lagoon with a steady wind, with my material well in hand, the competition could begin!

From the 1st day I realize that the fight will be very severe because there are many contenders in the title, days follow each other and are alike, the wind was always between 18 and 25 knots allowing many races, and at the end of the week of competition and 6 hours a day on the water I managed to grant myself the 3rd place in the scratch (boys / girls) in the category under 17 years and 1st girl under 17ans.

Scratch Podium under 17 years old ( ISAF):
1 Gutek Kurczewski POL 75 Star–Board/Maui Sails
2 Luigi Romano ITA 911 Rrd/Simmer Style
3 Morane Demont FRA 59 Star–Board/Severne/Deboichet
4 Connor Baxter US 333 Star–Board/North Sails
5 Amado Vrieswijk NB 20 Star–Board/Hot Sails
6 Zane Schweitzer US 52 Star–Board/North Sails
Etc…

Please note that, on a fleet of 26 competitors 18 were on Starboard!!!

I am very satisfied with this performance, I feel very comfortable with my 2009 boards, sails and fins, most of the time I use with my Starboard Isonic 111 with the Severne Code Red 7.5 a complete rig and Deboichet fin SL2 38, I also use Isonic 94 with Code Red 6.5 and Deboichet SL 2 36.

Now direction South of France to train with Arnaud Jacques in Almanarre for 3 weeks before to fly to Turkey for another PWA event.

Many people that were at the event, were astonished with Morane’s speed leading the boys normally at every Mark, the only way in which she could be overtaken was at the jibe. Overall her performance was extremely strong, her speed was quite incredible and everyone is really excited to follow her on her future travels and events
