World Windsurfing Day, Ireland

Achill Island on the West Coast of Ireland was the venue to sail on World windsurfing day last weekend. The beautiful Keel beach with its imposing 600 ft cliffs gave us Dublin sailors a decent swell and 5.3 weather some excellent jumping and wave riding conditions.

Pro sailor Mikey Clancy just back from Pozo ,Johnathan Woods ,74 year old legend John Lee (making a comeback after a number of injuries)along with Bob and Colm. All enjoyed the sunny weather and good conditions. Meanwhile Gareth Allen had his hands full with a big group of beginners on the nearby safer location Keel Lake( 4 foot deep) telling us that there is such an upsurge in kids wanting to take up windsurfing that his Windwise School is permanently booked out during the Irish school holidays June July and August. Ireland has become the Mecca for both windsurfing and surfing with its huge coastline and many wind surfers from other are now discovering the hidden gems it has to offer. Here are some photos of Achill .You canalso see more of Ireland on www.mikeyclancy.com
