VOLUME (L) 144
Getting going before anyone else and beating them to every mark!
GET UP AND GO
The futura is most attractive to competent freeride sailors, with its amazing early planning, taking off almost before you've settled into the harness! It has great speed and control once fully powered up, however with heaps of footstrap positions the Futura is also good ride for learning to get in them. The board has plenty of width forward of the straps and tapers into quite a tight tail, the nose is also pretty short, making the ride feel compact and helping it to stick to the water and excel in challenging conditions.
HOW MUCH FUN?
The Futura, even at 144, is very lively. Whether going for an upwind jolly, or just trying to return to where you started, it is comfortable and in control all the time. When it comes to bearing off, the Futura picks up speed quickly, the footstraps positioned perfectly: driving off the fin and picking its way through chop.
HOW DOES IT TURN?
The thinner tail means you can gybe as tightly as you want, making corrections if need be Whatever happens you will nearly always exit the turn still planning and with a smile on your face! Tacking is also a lot of fun, the loose feel meaning you can carve upwind, jump round the mast and push it off again, as if you're sailing a much smaller board. We did find that if the tack was slow the board became unstable, but if you're quick enough this problem is eradicated.
HISTORY OF THE FUTURA
"In 2008 the Futura was born: reduced thickness and maximum efficiency concepts blended comfort, gybing performance and stability with top speed, wider wind range, more power, earlier planning and peak performance." Tiesda You
TIPS FROM THE TOP
"The footstrap inserts have two or three holes, this allows each strap to be adjusted forward of backward, if there are three holes, the middle hole is the one we recommend." Tiesda You
