View Full Version : 2 board futura quiver

I am planning on trying the Futura's for this year. I am wondering what the best 2 board guiver would be taking into account I have the following sails: 6.2, 7.2, 7.8 and 8.6. My weight is 80kilo.

Not on the "Team", but these are my thoughts:
Assuming that you are a intermediate sailor in winds from 10 to 20+ knots given your sail quiver and question, I would suggest the Futura 101 and 131. This also assumes steady winds and fresh water. The 101 will be somewhat unstable for uphauling or slogging in light winds, but covers a pretty broad range of wind and sails. If you feel compelled to go with a more stable "small board", then the 111 is pretty nice, but then the overlap with the 131 becomes greater. Then the 111 and 141 may be a better combination.
It really depends on your typical wind conditions and skills. On a Futura, a novice sailor with your sails will be sailing in 5-15 knots. An expert sailor with your sails will be sailing in 15-25 knots.

Thanks for the answer. I am more an advanced surfer. I currently sails iSonics (87, 107 and 117W). I want to get a more easy comfortable ride but do want to use the futura's as slalom boards. PLan is to test one and see if I like it.... If so I am considering switching to futura's... But it will be a hard decision because I realy like my 107 en 117W......

Just an idea, but if you really like the 107 & 117w, maybe consider swapping just the iS87 for a F93. You could get a couple of different slalom fins for your iSonics to get the easier ride that you want. I recently got Select S10's, they made my iSonics much less physical to sail in rougher water. Tectonic Talon and Chocco Fireblade also have nice easy ride:)

I understand, and the dilemma you face wasn't much different than when I decided to buy my '08 iS 111. I debated for some time if it should be the iS or Futura since I rarely race slalom (mostly formula).
I finally went with the iSonic for three reasons. One, it would be a bit more challenging to master (I saw this as a good thing). Two, the 111's sail range fit perfectly into my board and sail line up. Three, the iS would plane up quicker and stay on plane longer than the Futura. I sail in puffy conditions with lots of holes.
The down side of the iS is the rough ride, and it's not good for chop hopping (at least for me). Also, the back outboard straps are hard to get into. However, it is an exciting ride and if the wind is steady, no one passes me.
I also agree with mark, the right fin(s) makes a difference, but you probably have already figured this out.

For these sails, I'd go for 101 and 122. The 101 is great with 6.2 and 7.2 and can handle a 7.8. The 122 is ok with 7.2, 7.8 and can handle a 8.6. But...
I should test the boards first. Your isonic 107 is so damn good... I think you'll regret the change.

I would say a F93 & F122.
However after sailing the 107, you will find the Futura's a little like sailing on autopilot. The most versatile Isonic is the 107, and the 111 for the Futura. I find the dimensions somewhat puzzling for the 101 Futura, having the same tail width, and marginally less width than the F111. The F93, I believe is also too wide for its volume and can become very big quickly esp with an 80kg rider.
I would suggest keeping the I107 (8.6,7.8,7.2) trying a F93 (7.2,6.2) and keep your I87.

For what its worth F93 and F121

I would say 101 and 121.
I am using 101W and 122WC (2011)and using 6.2/7.0 and 7.8 sails on them and 78kg.
6.2 reflex and SO7 32cm over the lake is a dream, very fast and controlable. 7.0 on both boards is great the 122 don't feel to big for this combination, the 101 is better. 7.8 on the 122 is realy good and planes early and since the new 121 has a wider tail the 8.6 sould still be in the sweetspot with your weight. The venom fins are very usable and again with the 121 2 cm bigger than last years model at 44cm. The reason I changed from iSonic to futura's is that with the iSonic it's more like a sprint, your back leg is burning quickly when you push the board hard and when you're not pushing hard you will be passed by a Futura rider standing relaxed.
When you want to try the boards contact me, I'm living in NHolland.

Why not get just one & a few extra fins? Both the 121 & 131 would work with your sails. Get the 121 if you use the 6.2 more often or get the 131 if you spend more time with the 8.6.

I have decided to stick with the iSonics for a while....
