View Full Version : light wind sail for original go
11th April 2007, 05:50 AM
Hi, I´ve been looking for previous posts and got really confused.
I have an original Go Board, local wind conditions are mostly 6 to 10 knots and "great" days go al the way to 15 knots.
I am an intermediate windsurfer who weights 75 kilograms (+ - 2 Kg depending on the season), and is 5' 7"
and I want to buy a new sail, that will let me have fun more time
I currently have a powerex Zwave 460 mast.

What size sail do you currently use?
The original GO can easily take sails up to around 10.0 m2.
A good free race 9.5 m2 (SW Retro, NP V8, Severne Gator) would give you about all the light wind performance you can get from the original GO.
A 9.5 ahould be good on the GO to around 12-14 knots where you might want to change down to a 7.5 -8.0 m2 rig.
If you only want a smaller sail, look at somethign really powerful like a Severne Glide.
Youir Powerex ZWave mast is not going to work too well on larger free race sails so you will need to get another mast (hopefully the "best mast" recommended for whatever sail you purchase).
Hope this helps,

Thanks for your fast response, I will be looking at the suggested sails with great interest.
I was looking at the Severne glide, and according to their website the only size is a 7.5, at htis size can it be an alternative to the 9.0 retro?

I think the Severne Glide is very powerful for a 7.5 m2, but I don't think it quite makes the same power as a 9.0 m2 Retro.
As much low wind go power as maybe an 8.5 m2 Retro, but not as much as a 9.0.
The German "Surf" magazine thought the Glide was nearly as powerful as some of the 9.0 m2 rigs that they were testing at the time, but that was a very subjective claim, and I don't think they were testing really powerful 9.0 m2's like the Retro.
Hope this helps,
