View Full Version : Aero Fin

I know that this has probably been covered here in the past, but does anyone have recommendations for a replacement wave fin for my Aero 117? It seems like it's difficult enough to find a monster-size wave fin, but finding one with a Tuttle box is impossible. I've got a 10.25" True Ames Surfgrass, but I'd like to get more of a "traditional" wave fin, as well. I think that the stock fin was 30 cm, but, after looking at Drake's website, even they don't make them anymore. Thanks in advance for your help.

Dolf Daam had a number of large custom wave fins made by Vector Fins Maui for his Aero117 to allow him to use very large sails. It's unclear whether Dolf reserves an exclusive right to the designs, as he invested considerable funds to have them developed, but you might want to contact Vector Fins Maui to possibly learn more. No harm in an inquiry.

The Wardog ATX 34 is a very good compromise for the Aero 117.

I contacted Vector about this & am waiting to hear back on specifics. The ATX is a bit more upright than I'm looking for, so, if I had to stray, I'd probably lean towards a 10.25" True Ames Surfgrass. I saw a 11" Torquay (an Australian brand) Wave on eBay - has anyone tried one of those?

are you sure you that the costum fin isn't the DRAKE freeride flow, in the catalog i see no other TTbox fin of about 30 or less. The crossover Drake fin is a US box ...

You hav the aero 2006 or the K. Aero? BEcause the 2006 came with 2 fins, one was the freeride flow 360 (which still excists in the 2007 drake collection) and the other was a wave fin which doesn't excist in the 2007 anymore

It's the 2006 - the one that came with 2 fins. That's why I want to get another big wave fin. Thanks for the input.

As a follow-up, I ordered a custom 28cm from Vector Fins - basically just a big version of their Onshore Wave. It showed up today & looks great, but I'm looking forward to getting it out on the water. Thanks for your help.
