View Full Version : S-type 104 ; fin for 7m??
28th May 2007, 10:47 AM
I've just ordered a S-type 104 and two new sails.
The sails are Simmer 2XC 6m² and Simmer 3XC 7m².
I'm 177cm and 70kg.
I know that the 7m² is pearhaps limit in size and I thus would like to know what fin change or other tunning would be the best for this sail size.
It's difficult to be confident with this 7m² choise before testing because I have read in this forum diferent advices on the max sail for Stype 104. Some are saying that 6,5 is the max and other is saying that 7,6 is still great !
Thanks in advance.

With the 2007 ST104, stock fin is the FreeSlalom Swift 360, which will be a good midrange fin for your weight with 7.0m on the ST104. For 70kg, you should be fine on the ST104 with 7.0m.
You may like to consider an optional fin for tuning with the 6.0m in higher wind conditions.
A fast freeride style fin around 30-32cm* will be a good choice for that,
and will size well alongside the stock 36cm in your quiver for this board.
* some lower aspect ratio freeride fins may require a slightly smaller "mechanical" size; conversely , some higher aspect ratio fins will measure slightly larger for a given "performance" size.
That's particularly common in freeride fins, where the outline/planshape/AR doesn't always follow a single common trend.
(eg : Low AR 28-29cm = Hi AR 30-32cm in "performance size")

Thank you Ian for your answer.
I intended to buy a 40 cm fin for the 7,0 and I'll actually probably better buy a 32 for the 6,0 ...
Would a fin like the select S-Ride medium be a good choise ?

40 cm fin for a 7.0...............
36/38 ( max for light conditions ) for a Slam fin ( ex: GW )
On the BIG iSonic 125 we ( 4/5 guys ) use
7.2/7.4 => 38 ( ex : Tomcat for heavy one's, GW for light one's )
8.2/8.4 => 42/46 ( ex : Tomcat, SL 2 )
32 cm for 6.0
En bref, pose la question à Christine sur le Forum Français, elle a testé la 104 07 avec différentes voiles et ailerons.
Dans une optique Freeride rapide, le S-Ride est certainement un bon choix ( 32 + 36/38 )
