Could you give info about the Red Line masts ?
Is it constant curve ( north ), flex top ( like NP ), Hard Top ( gaastra ) ?
BTW : 490 is the size I am considering to buy.
Thanks in advance !

Jesper is the guy who really knows this 490 curve in the most detail, I'll ask him to give the full detail ASAP.

What sail do you want to use the 490 Severne Red Line in?
The 490 mast is closest to constant curve. It would be best if you can reply what sail you are using, and we can advise you.
We have a strong mast program (performance/ strength) and aim to deliver Severne masts that can be used with other sail brands.
By the way I have not heard about any broken Severne Red Line masts, for a long while, used/ sailed under normally conditions!!

thanks for answering.
Honestly, I am still thinking about the sail... but the options are V8, Daytona ( Rec mast is a 4.60 plus extender =) ) and GTX, in 8-8.5 range.
What do you think about using the RedLine for those sails ? Wich one would be the best combination ?
Thanks in advance !

If you can't get hold on a Severne Overdrive 8.5, that is in the same category as the sails you mentioned, and in many sailors opinion a better sail. Then V8 and GTX will be OK with the Severne Red line mast. It might even perform better? The only sail I'm not 100% sure the mast will fit is the Daytona.

I wonder if my NP X9 Ultras 460+490 will 100% perform in an Overdrive 8,5-7,5-6,5 ?
Best regards Pascal

We have only good/ positive feedback, that your NP X9 460+490 will work in the Overdrive 8.5, 7.5 and 6.5.

Hi all, I've been using Severne race masts, ( S-racing 490, 520, & Redline 550) in NP V8's for a couple of seasons now and I can confirm that the performance is very good, better than the X6. The only drawback is cam rotation is not as good - kick & punch. I also know of a person who was using X6/X9 in Overdrive, and also had a great result.

Hi Jesper, was just wondering if you can be of help to answer my questions on the compatibility of Severne Redline 430 Skinny and my Naish Boxer SL 7.0m (2007). The boxer SL is a very special slalom cammed sail designed to use on 430RDM mast. I used to fit the sail with my Gasstra Skinny C75 430. Yet I sold the mast recently as I'm looking for upgrade to a lighter one.
Am doing some research recently and found that Severne's Redline's got the best weight amongst most skinnies in the market (1.5kg for 430; 1.35kg for 400). Yet I still got some questions:
1. How compatible it is to my Naish Boxer SL 7.0m (2007)
2. Any compromise in terms of durability for the feather-light feeling in hand?
3. Can I also ask which one is more durable? Red-line or Blue-line. Would the full carbon version be more brittle? Would one would you recommend for general use. Prevailing condition is 15-25knot. Flat water with little chop (0.5-1.5m).
Apart from this. I've also got 3 other Naish sails:
Boxer 5.4(2005), Boxer 5.8(2005), Force 4.7(2005)
They share the same Powerex 400 Taper mast.
The mast is wearing out. May I also have your info on the compatibilty of Redline 400 RDM on those sails?
Looking forward to have your reply. Thanks for help.

1:We don't have any feedback from any sailors using Severne Red Line 430 RDM on a 7.0 Boxer SL. The mast will be lighter and more responsive for sure.
2:We have very good feedback regarding durability on our mast's.
3: The Red line masts is full carbon, - so yes in theory they are more brittle, than the lower carbon ones. The good news on the 100% carbon is the low weight and quick response.
4: We do recomend the Red line for the best performance.
For your 3 x Boxer sails you can easily use the Severne 400 Red Line RDM mast. The curve is close to the Powerex.

I am using the RDM 430 Redline in the GATOR 08 6,0 and 5,3. The mast works excellent, is super strong and has a quick response, like Jesper mentioned. Perhaps this helps you for your decision.

Thanks all of you so nice.
Apart from Powerex, did you tried to compare the bend curve of the Redline RDM with that of a Gasstra C75 RDM. My Boxer SL 7.0 works well on the Gasstra mast.
Considering your comment, as well as taking into consideration the improvement on weight and responsiveness, I bascially decided to go for the Redline 430RDM. I would expect this to be my primary mast. Many friends of mine also reminded me that RDMs are build to stand punishing conditions which we seldom have here in Hongkong:)
