Although stock fins in the past were considered poor product, the retailler who sold me a board recently stated that they are much better these days. I wonder where in the range of sail sizes would the fin fit on most boards. I measured the width of my board one foot from the tail and found that when using the rule that a fin should be as wide as the board there the fin was small. Since I have a sail in the upper range of the board, I figure I could use another fin. Will this fin possibly stabilize my ride and make it easier for me to get in the straps? Shouldn't it help me stay up on a plane? Otherwise, the stock fin seems to work O.K. with the bigger sail which isn't the upper limit of the sail range. I suspect that fins are rangier than the after-market people want one to think.
