View Full Version : Acid; Evo or Kombat ?

Looking for high wind/wave board to use at coast ,occasionally in waves ; pretty much always in chop. Priority is control with sails down to 4.2 ( max of 5.4.) Weight is 102 kg. (mine not boards) Next board up 105 litres .(Freestyle wave, which gets a bit bouncy below 4.7 sails) Standard good intermediate.
Thinking Acid 86 ???
Found kombat 95 too similar to present 105.
Merits of Evo and kombat ? (Equivalent widths ??)
Dont want any freestyle or freeride options.

I ride a Kombat86 and I believe it will be perfect for your requirements. Mine is a bit bouncy with a 4.2/4.0 but for 102 kg it should work well. I think you should choose based on how much top end is important (acid) vs. bottom end/more range in gusty wind (kombat).
I don't have experience with EVOs but I believe many sailors found they're not that good in bump/jump high wind conditions. Loose, slidey, wide tails, etc.

As Screamer writes, the EVO is the easiest one to rule out as it is a more dedicated wave riding board. Between Pure Acid and Kombat the choce is not easy. In fact, the two boards ride very close. If you're not interested in the possibility if a more freeride oriented footstrap setting which is an option on the K, the choice gets even harder.
Basically, the main difference will be the wider tail of the Kombat 89. This may make the PA86 the more control oriented of the two. I do think that at your weight, the K89 will easily handle 4.2 too, but if it is really control that maters the most, the PA will have an edge, especially when you're on a wave.
