Hello everybody!
I would like to know if severne code red 10, had a good light wind performance, in particolar for light weith such a girl.

It is powerful or need much wind to planning? (like warp for example)

What differences between code red 2007 and 2008?
There are two holes for outhaul or only one in 2007?

Nope. Severne is a bad choice.

They are much more interested in fake & crappy graphics by painting their sails, than actually designing performance sails.

Save yourself the embarrassment on the water.

The 2008 models are super stable with a deep powerfull profile in the lower section. For <70kg the 10sqm can be a good light wind choice. Just playing at the first rigging with the spacers to get the correct cam preassure.

For earliest planning with 10 m2 sail still fast stabel, easy rigging and handling on the water, I would considder the Overdrive.
10 m2 Overdrive is close to 11 m2 Code Red reg. early planning.

Unregistered, did you try one of these sails? Which sizes and models? What was the problem? The profile (shape) in the bottom is much deeper and you get into planning quite early.

We have tried the Code Red 2008 in 11.0 (F161 and F162) and 7.7 (ISonic 122) yesterday, 7 - 15 knots in flat water. Both are incredible with a deep bottom shape and a nice loose leech. The rigging ist perfecly easy. It is necessary to play with the spacers to get the right preasure for a perfect rotation.

On the water, they feel light and even stable in the hand, just Severne Sails.
They both help the boards to get planing early and easy and they accelerate fast to a good speed. The downwindperformance of the 11.0 seems to be very good.

We rigged the 11.0 with the recommendet 550 (34) and even on the older 530 (34) with the tip extension from 2007 (Many thanks to Peter for the help). The bottom shape is deep and the same on both masts but with the tip extension there is more loose leech. We had no chance to test against each other (only one sail) but we will go on and report later.

So with the Code Red 2008 you can expect a realy early planing and powerfull Sail. Light in the hand, easy to rigg and build in an very good workmanship.

Hello LK,

How does the Overdrive handle once the wind picks up to say 12 knots? I guess a Code Red would be better then?

Would the Overdrive 10m be good in 8-12knot conditions you think?

What’s your weight/height and skill ?

8-12 knots is sweetspot for a leightweight.

Look at the windrange chart, and comparison to Code Red too.
8-16 knots no problem for medium skil IMO.

Just rigged my new 10,0 Overdrive 08, looks amazing. deep profile low in the sail and nice twist. Hope to test it on the water later this week

I'm about 75kg/1.77m/intermediate.

Hanging on to a 10m in 16knots of wind sounds kinda hairy to me! Bought I would still be using the 10m Overdrive in those conditions.

So an Overdrive would provide earlier planing as compared to a Code Red of the same size?
And conversely, a Code Red would be easier to handle and more stable in >14knots?

Or is the difference negligable?

What board do you want to use the CR/OD on and next sizes/sail type or board down, do you have or want to have. Do you want to race or freeride ?

Can't comment about 2008 Code Red or Overdrive (not tested yet). However, just to give you an idea of what to expect, the planing wind range of Code Red R2 11.0 with its 530 cm mast + mast tip extension is 7-12/13 knots for my 183 cm x 65 kg. Above than that, the sail is becoming way too large and I'm downsizing to a NP RS2 8.2 (wind range 10-15 knots).

What board to you want to pair with your sail : Formula or large iSonic ? Racing or not ?

I plan to use it on a formula (which I own) or iSonic 133(which i may buy to replace the formula). No racing, just want to have fun blasting around!

Its probably going to be part of a 2 sail quiver; Maybe a 10m and a 8.5m if i decide to purchase an iSonic 133 or just the 10m on a formula if i decide to stick with formula.

I guess what i need to know is how much more early planning (relative) a 10m OD will give me over a 10m CR. And lets say a the wind picks up to 13knots and above, would a 10m CR be alot easier to handle compared to a 10m OD?

early planning at lower wind speeds vs handling when it picks up to the mid teens!

If sailing mostly in 8-10 knots, I think you should keep the formula board. ( but OK I weight 95 kg, so the lightweights’ know better )
Regarding CR vs. OD it’s hard to say, it depends on pumping technique and wind quality.
A guess, min. 1 knot (2 knots when passive rider) earlier planning for OD and the same in favour for CR in high wind.
Experience from a pro rider is, OD 10,0 planes as early as 11,0 CR.
OD has easier handling on the water and a bit softer. This is in favour for a lightweight rider.
The CR excels when going super fast and maxed out through chop.
On flat water or more regular wavy conditions I don’t think you can feel any differences.
You would have changed a size down long before. So in 13 knots you won’t feel a diff., in 16 to 20 knots yes.

10,0 and 8,5 is perfect quiver for lightweight on Formula, but on IS133 or maybe Futura 144  too.
If you choose CR, go for 2008. Take the Redline Mast (100% carbon) no matter if OD or CR.
