I recently sailed the Severne Glide 8.5m with the Formula Apollo 2008. This was a great combination for relaxed recreational formula sailing in middle/light wind conditions.
For even lighter wind conditions, I think a Severne Glide 10m or 11m would be perfect. Especially because these sails would still feel light even in such a big size. They are much lighter than the standard race/freerace sail. However Severne does not make the Glide in such big sizes.
I was wondering if I am the only one who wishes a 10 or 11m Severne Glide?
Maybe if there are other enthusiasts for a bigger Severne Glide, they will start to design and manufacture them. I'm sure some Severne developers are scanning this forum;).

Aerotech Jumbo Race 11M From the 90's ??!! It's very lightweight but can be pitchy
when the wind comes up. They can be found for about $25, and you will need about double that in repair tape.

I was also dreaming of a large Glide sail size for my Serenity until I tried a Code Red 11.0m2 size. Absolute key in 2-7 knots wind range is trim. I mean baggy sail trim and a tighter leech. Match racing on 2 Serenity with either a Glide or a Code Red 11.0 m2 sail have shown that the larger sail is still faster in such very low wind (gliding mode).

For your Apollo, you might be better served with an Overdrive 11m2 sail that is more deeply drafted than a Code Red for planing in ultra light wind conditions. Another option would be the StarBoard Raceboard 9.5 m2 sail: more deeply draft, gruntier and lighter.

Thank you for your reply. I totally agree with you that the 11.0m CR, 11.0m OD and maybe even the 9.5m Starboard Raceboard Sail are faster than the 8.5m Glide in light winds. However I still think that a 10.0 or 11.0m Glide would be even better for such conditions. It's deeper profile, tighter leech but especially it's better handable lighter weight could result in an awesome light wind machine.
