For Taty Frans/Ian Fox: is101 07/08/09

I would like to ask about the differences of isonic 101 from 2007, 2008 and 2009?

I use my is101 07 for slalom racing with 6.7 and 5.5 sails and I would like to know what can I expect from new models? Speed, early planning, acceleration, control, jibe etc...

I have 3 options: stay with my old board, get new is101 08 right now, or wait for 09 model...

My weight it 83kg and I am very satisfied with speed of 07 model. I also really really like its control in chop and in jibes, also in 5.5 conditions.
Can I expect that new models are much better in all segments, or they sacrifice control just to be a little bit faster?
Is there a big difference between those 3 models?

Hi Marko,

The 2009 Isonic 101 will be difrent then the 07 08 models.

Every year starboard improve their boards and the 101 Isonic 08, was a bit faster but the control of the board was the same, but as they have made the tail a bit width it have gave the board a better and early planing.

As the 2009 Isonics I haven't sailed with them yet, but heard from Remy that they are SUPERB. So I am looking forward on it.

Hi Marko,

As Taty confirmed, the differences are not quantum year to year -2008 iS101 is almost exactly an intermediate step - where the use of a wider more hipped outline provided some extra range/accel/early planing - and was itself a measurably better allround "100lt" than the 2007.

For this season, the 2009 improvements in range (the wideness of the speed/competitiveness sweet spot), acceleration (and early planing) and control (from the lower centre of drive/mastfoot) in the 2009 should be clearly noticeable to a typical slalom race guy, especially when comparing 2007 to 2009.

If you're coming from a base/reference of 2007 iS101, then (depending on the $ difference) the jump to the 2009 model makes more product/performance upgrade sense.

I will go for the new is101 2009!

Which fin would you recommend for is101 09 and 5.5? I am 83kg, I need it only for slalom racing and I already have deboichet sl2 36 and 38 for bigger sails.
I can choose between choco fins or deboichet. Is there big difference between them (because the difference in price is obvious)?

Hi Marko,

The smallest fin i am using on the 101 is 36cm Choco fins.

And I once use 34 but felt that the fin is small for the board.

I am 74kg.
