This does not mean that the Evil Twin production board is not good. Many team riders have their own shapers and to keep things looking like production they spay or put original production stickers in their boards.
I don't think that for Wave competition you have to use production boards only.

They don't need to use production boards, that's why nobody uses then in competiton. I saw some pics of KP boards for sale in his blog and most of then are custom Mark Nelson's boards.

Kevin has a Kode twin fin convertible to 4 fins that is shape by Sean Ordones. Looks sick.

Most Starboard team riders are on production kit, unlike with some other brands (just check out Jason P and Kauli fx). Kevin also rides boards also from some other shapers, from Keith and Sean Ordonez fx. From Starboards point of view this is not a bad thing since Kevin is a great board developer and tester and him getting experience also from other places means he can put even more into the development of the Starboard boards.

For the pros, it's not so much about a board being good enough. It has to fit just right. Scott McKercher do ride production Evil Twins, so do many of the other pro riders. So apparently they are good enough _and_ fit their styles.
