id say it starts around 15-20 depending on who you are and if you have a good suit, why not just wear shoes though?? they protect your feet from rocks and can be bough it very resonable prices

I like to sail barefoot, but when the temperatur falls below 12-14 celsius i feel there is no gain. The feeling of greater sensibilty dissapears when the feet just feels like a big lump..

Once I forgot to take shoes to Silvaplana (1800 meter above the see level) and the water was extremely cold (I guess 11-12 deg. C). It was only possible to sail in 30 minutes intervals and than I had to go out and warm up my feet.

But comfortable is it definetely not and I would not recommend it!
Ciao Michal.

For me, about 15 C / 60 F. But I agree with Screamer; you just have to try it yourself and see.

Hi,

It largely depends on your metabolism and your fat insulation.

About 9C is the bare minimum I can go without getting feet too numb by cold water. What's very important is to get heat from whole body and head by using a dry suit with hood: as long as I'm getting hot, no problems going barefoot in cold water.

BTW in Silvaplana during summertime, I'm always barefoot with either a shorty or a short arm steamer. I just hate booties.

Cheers !
