View Full Version : Quad IQ 77

I have a question for team members or anyone who has tried the board. I would like to change my 2009 Kode 80 for a 2011 Quad. I would like to know about the volume of the 77. Is it 77 or more 80ish. I don't like way too wide boards, so I would raher go for the 77 instead of the 82. To anyone who has tried the board and maybe has tried a 80l kode, are the volumes similar ? I am usually on 4.7 or 5.2, and ocasionally 4.2.

I have both boards. Too me there is little difference in flotation between the Kode 80 and the Quad 77. The Quad 82 feels distinctly bigger than the K80. However, I've only sailed the K80 in the Arabian Gulf where the water is very salty, 5%, and the Quad 77 I've only sailed in fresh water in the Great Lakes and the Gorge. My Quad 76 compared to the Quad 77 feels a touch larger on the water when underpowered, but the reason is likely the little wider tail.

I only have the Quad 74 and 82 but based on this and my previous experience with the Kode 80 I would agree with Ray: Q82 is no doubt a one class bigger board ad the Q77 should feel at least as big as the K80 (which is for sure a very small 80 liter board if you go by on water feel). In fact, unless you desperately need the extra floatation a few liters more will provide, I would even say the Q74 could be an option, particularly if you're a small guy.

Thanks to both for answering. I weight about 83 kilos. At first when I bought the Kode 80 it felt really small and thought I would have problems sailing underpowered but after getting used to it, I can get going with no problem. I thought the 82 would feel too big for my liking, judging by the measurements. From what you guys are saying, I will probably be better on the Quad 77 as I thought. Thanks.
