RE: 04 Acid question...right choice?

Windtsu, I have an Acid74 and a Fanatic FW86, and find them to be a great pair. I'm 70kg (150lbs?). When things are getting a bit big for the Freewave, the Acid takes over, and as far as I'm concerned, has no upper wind limit. It's one very well behaved babe! If only I could use it to its full potential like Scott McK.

hi windtzu,

I used this board (the same acid wood 74 2004) during 2 years and I really love it!! Perfect with 4.7 and 4.2 and less. I used it too with 5.0 et 5.4 and it was good but It was better with <4.7. Very fast in waves with perfect feeling in surf and jump , very easy to use and the acid forgive a lot

perfect classic wave board !

now I have acid 74 2007 and it very different style but it a very good board. tested in small and big wav ( 3m) and 20 to 40 nds and it's great

I used that board a lot. My favourite at the time and the 2004 Acid 74 is the culmination of many years of developement lead by Scott McKercher (ho then went on to develpo the EVO range). While the A74 by todays standards is kind of narrwo and long, there is actually a tiny bit of EVO charater in it still. It does have a similar concave bottom, quite a lot of rocker and parallell rails which makes it nice to push it in onshore stuff. One of the outstanding features of hteis board is excelletn control - in fact the overall sail range is impressive as well.

I belive the 74 will fell more modern than you JP, but also a bit smaller since the JP was (if I recall) in real life a bit over 80 liters. Regardsless of volume, width etc, the A74 will easily handle 5.3 to 3.7.

04 Acid question...right choice?

I have an opportunity to buy an 2004 Acid 74 (wood). Does anyone have any experience with this particular board -- myself not being familiar with the Acid line. I currently have a Fanatic FW88 -- ideal range 4.7 to upper 5's and a 2000 JP255 78 liter. Would the Acid 74 basically replace my JP 255, have things changed that much since 2000? I weigh 165 lbs and sail 90% of the time in open ocean swell / bump and jump / and very occasional small waves. Is particular Acid a good choice? -- with sails 5.3-3.7.
