Rocket Thanks for the answers. I eventually decided that there was no 95 litre board that could do what an 85 and 105 combo could do and bought a 104 freewave.

jasonGR Hi!!!

I'am a happy owner of a K89 '08. For my weight 72kg this board works perfectly from freeride, bump&jump and light wind wave riding with sails 4.7 - 5.8.
I can tell you it planes up early, it has a very good speed, very manoeuvrable , nothing to do with the K85 '05 I had before,is completelly different board.

Have fun!!!

Chris Pressler Hi Rocket again,
to test the board is a good idea indeed. Just one interesting aspect concerning my impressions on the board: I took the board to find out if it would work for freestyle as well. I expected the Kombat 96 to be pretty good in sliding and turning and so on. The result wasthat the board really worked fine but could not beat the pure freestyler Flare 99. I was impressed how wide the range of the Kombat96 was. But I have to be honest. I did not ride any wave down the line.
Keep me updated about your test impressions on Teneriffe.

have fun,

Rocket Thanks for the reply Chris. I had already read your description on the UK Boards forum and appreciate that you are upfront about your association with Starboard. I know it is still early to get feedback on the board from the general public.
It got a good review in Windsurf (I do not consider Windsurf's tests to be that meaningful, but they are better than nothing. They did start giving better comparisons a while back, but have unfortunately regressed again). Boards was not overly enthused with the 89litre Kombat and I do rate their reports.
The 96 will be different from the 89 though, so I am still investigating it. It is on my shortlist. I am not interested in sailing backwards, so the lower nose is not a plus point for me. I may have to go to Tenerife though if I want to sail one. No-one stocks them in my country.

Chris Pressler Hi Rocket,
I had a Kombat 96 on my last trip to Egypt in my bags. The board feels extremely light, is super fast and turns easy. Itīs definitely a new generation in this line of Kombat boards. The Board is very thin and has for sure not more than 96 liters,. Itīs a great jumper and will work in waves with lighter wind too. Sure the board is a bit of compromise bercause of itīs width. But you have an absolutely wide range of conditions it works in excellent. From flatwater to bump&jump and waves. For wavesailing you should fix a wavefin in your finbox, 22 - 24 cm. Easy to get, itīs a US finbox system. For freeriding you can fix your straps more outside. The board can be tuned for many different conditions within some minutes. You can use sails in between 4,5 and 6,5.
Jump on the board and you will like it,

Feedback from owners of the Kombat 96?

I am interested in the 2008 Kombat 96. I weigh 77kg and want a freewave to partner with a 75l 249 by 53cm trad waveboard for 5.0 to 5.8m sails. It has to plane early but also be useable in waves in a light wind.

Maybe the Acid 94 would have been better, but they are no longer available. The 2008 96 Kombat may benefit from the development of the 94 acid, so I would like to hear how owners of the 2008 96 Kombat would describe it?
