Hi, i use gaastra gtx 2011 7.0, 2010 7.5, 2009 8.0 . My impressions are as follows
2011 range is for sure the best. But all of them are quite heavy it the gybes, if you drop to the water the earlier versions don't have a zipper so the water can easily fill into the luff pocket. Very shallow profile so not good in light wind. I don't like the 2010&2009 in any way but the 2011 version (7.0) is, in overpowered, very stable and very fast and feel light in hands in the straights.
I'm also considering to switch to np slalom or race, cause they feel lighter, also very stable in overpowered and better in light wind. Normally they use the sloalom with x6 (But the carbon content is 60% where other brands are 75%). Don't try north warp but a friend who have it also think to switch to np because he feels norths are heavier. Race sails are heavier, cost much more, but if you change your gear frequently, easier to sell,, and also easier to find a good 2nd hand (at least where i live, and also you can get a good condition rs cheaper than a new slalom). If want to use rdm mast, loft sails look good, they design them for rdm and compatible with sdm.

|NED136||Hi, answering your question: I have experience with NP racing / evo and NP RS Slalom. Like both racing is a little bit more powerful. Slalom has a smaller windrange. With the slalom you can easily use NPx6 masts. Like them both very much. You have to handle the evo's / x9 masts of course with more care than the slalom and x6. To my opinion most people would be very happy with the slalom sails as the difference with then evo's is small, but the price is less. I would only advice against the larger x6 booms when your a heavy weight: full carbon booms are the best.|

The same manufacturer, dont mean the same masts.
The 2 or 3 Italian manufacturers and Autima in Taiwan, products masts for a lot of sailmaker's and equipment enterprises.
They create products to fit market request where enterprises have just to pick, and others under customer's spécifications

Sure! Italica manufacturer made same masts for both North and Severne!!!

Cheapest way : just order a spare collar from North and do it yourself if you're an expert with a sawblade and chisel.
Don't know whether North mast bend curve is fully compatible in a NP RS6/RSR sail but some people have reported good compatibility results with Severne Red Line masts in those sails. Search on this forum.

But you need to bring a spare mast from your retailer too !
I agree with you JM, less problems on North mats then on Pryde's X9
even North bend curve is sizeable.

I'd like to disagree with your sloppy argument above. You really can't compare NP and North mast failures. When the first snaps in pieces, it's much more costly in term of overall replacement and sail repair. When the second splits at the aluminum collar, it only costs for a new aluminum collar spare part. Nothing more.

I never sailed NP RS/S; but of course if you are fed up with broken equipment AND like the feel of top class sails, why go down to 75% masts AND stay with NP? Makes no sense! As for the GTX, I sailed the '07 7.0 and liked it better than the Vapor comparatively, as it showed 95% of the performances with less weight and easier feel. Just my personal impression.
Anyhow, I am a very very happy Maui Sails user too, and I do agree 100% with Ken. If you like race sails and want serious reliable stuff, no need to step down since what you are looking for exists in reality: go for the TR-4s, or used TR-3s, with their SRS 100% masts.
