10- 14 knots, with an average of 12 (F4) and gusts up to 17, and I'm probably on my 122/8.8 combo 13-15 knots, with an average of 14 (F4) and gusts up to 20 and I'm probably on my 122/7.8 or 101/7.8 13-17 knots, with an average of 15 (F4) and gusts up to 25 (which I had this morning) and I'm on my 101/6.7, a bit underpowered but always on the plane and going like crazy in the gusts |

77 kg male, 24 years windsurfing on inland lakes. F5 - iSonic 111 7.6 or 6.6 F5 - HiFly 105 with a 6.0 F6 - HiFly 105 with a 5.0 or 4.5 F7 - Tiga 263 with a 4.0 The F5 is a little tricky since I have a few options depending on the actual wind range. At the upper end, I would prefer the 6.0 sail and HiFly since it is the most fun. At the lower end, the slalom board is a better call with the 7.6, but in the middle of the range, the 6.6 is best. |

71kg, male, 10+ years of windsurfing (mostly on weekends), inland lakes F4 - board 110L, sail 6.5m F5 - board 110L or 85L, sail 5.9m F6 - board 85L, sail 4.4m (quite rare) F7 - never met such conditions on those weekends when i was windsurfing |

75 kg, 15 year sailor. I sail in lakes, rivers, bays & ocean, some places with strong tides that affect water state & board/sail choice. F5 has too many possibilities from formula & 10 meter on a flood down to 85 liter wave & 5.5 on a strong ebb tide. F6 would usually have me on an 85 liter wave & 5.0, 4.5 or 4.0 on an ebb. May even bust out the 72 liter wave & 5.0. Flood would have me on a 93 liter Freeride with 5.5, 5.0 or 4.5 sails. F7 would be only wave gear. 85 or 72 liter & 4.5 or 4.0 sail Coachg |

82kg -20+yrs sailing 0-12kts stay at home or O Design 12-18 , 52 wide with a 7.5 inlet sailing 18-25 , 52 wide with a 6.6 inlet sailing 25-30, 52 wide with a 5.8 flat water or B&J 30-40, 40 wide with a 5.8 flat water and a 9 kg weight jacket 40+, 40 wide with a 5.0 flat water and a 9kg weight jacket Sail size changes around a bit depending on the wind angle when i,m speed sailing. Same goes for the weight jacket. If its broard and gusty i,ll wear it. Fins and water state will also have a huge impact on board behavoir. Start with what works and then push the limits of you and your gear limits |

Slalom conditions on a big lake next to sea (with rather stable winds) and 87kg personal weight: 8-14: F161 + 11m2 13-17: IS122 + 8.8m2 15-20: IS101 + 7.8m2 18-23: IS101 + 6.7m2 21-27: IS87 + 5.7m2 24-32: IS87 + 5.0m2 30+: Wave stuff + 4.2m2 or 3.7m2 |

From my point of view F5, F6, F7 are no good scales. The Beaufort scale is much too unprecise and many sailors/windsurfers hardly use it any more. Knots say much more. Then you stil have the water condition (flat , choppy, wavy) in combination with the WS disciplines (wave, freestyle, slalom, speed, formula, etc...) which make a whole lot of difference, even for amateurs like myself. |

Hi, This is not about speed. It's more to see what the amateurs, weekend warriors, the average joes and janes use in their spots (I know that many windsurfers have big egos, so please try to be as accurate as possible in your opinion of the wind strength which you windsurf) |
