RE: fixed wing sail

if you are going to try building a fixed wing sail i think you should look at kites.designing a bladder to fit inside the luff sleeve behind the mast and inflating like a kite would have the same effect be easier to make and your rig would float choco aus27

RE: fixed wing sail

While I think that Dan Kaseler is working on something cutting edge here, I think I have to agree withn Lampi that a 30 foot luff is beyond windsurfing. I could be wrong about this, but the cost margins would most likely exceed pragmatic limits normally associated with windsurfing concepts. Maybe Dan's concepts are more realistic for windsurfing. I've seen this series of photos presented earlier, but it would be interesting to learn more about the later result of Dan's efforts. Some of his earlier prototype concepts were clearly very insightful, particularly the ones replacing carbon battens with inflatible segments. I know that I was impressed with some of his prototype concepts while he was associated with Naish Sails.

Guest!

If 30 feet is as tall as I think it is (10m), then i think you should give your fixed wing sail some more thought. I'm sure that then you would see it isn't such a good idea.

!BUT!
Interesting? Yes... What board are you going to put under it? And how are you going to control it? :|

No offense but are you sure that you aren't being suicidal here??
If you are really into such big ''sails'', why not get a sailing boat?

fixed wing sail

Hi. I was talking with a guy that is a seasoned windsurfer and quite a gearhead to boot too. He had a pretty darn interesting idea ----> Fixed Wing Sail.
I don't see why not. make a sail that is about 30 feet tall out of aircraft aluminum or something. it would obviously need to be symmetrical but that is no big deal. just look at a fin shape!
