A 460 plus Xtender is the recommended combo for the RAM 9.0.
That is what I use and it works perfectly for me. I cant tell any difference that I am using an Xtender compared to say a 490 mast.

Thanks for the feedbacks..
A question: do you use the 9.0 RAM with the 40cm Xtender? Is it necessary?

No problems with 08 North monofilm here. Seems the same as 07
As for sails, Ram is best match to Isonic, downhaul is not a problem, you should be using a winch in any case. Also see people doing it by hand with a good extension like Streamline.
You should think about the 9.0 and take the bottom cam off if you dont want 4 cams, but it works fine out of the bag as it is.
S-type is a big improvement over the Daytona, more low end than the Ram, but less stable.
Think you should also consider Redline 9.0, light, short boom, powerful fast and a joy to use

I got the power XT and I'm.. going to check the other thread
Anyway I'm more convinced toward S-type and Prisma by now..

Downhaul tension on the RAMs .... I have two comparison benchmarks ....
1. With my Power XT using just the double-pulley system, I can comfortably downhaul my 9.0 down to 6.8 RAMs - but it takes a fairly firm push on the XT lever. It works fine with the double-pulley so I have bothered using the standard triple pulley method with my Power XT.
2. Downhauling by hand with a screwdriver for comfort takes about 95% of my max effort - although note that this effort is using the dodgy XT extension with the dodgy 'sawing across the pulley' problem which I haven't fully resolved yet! Check the other thread

Thanks for your feedback..
The best thing in these cases would be test them but it's always very difficoult.
Anyway I don't need them soon so I got plenty of time to decide!
Last thing: which is the RAM downhaul tension? Is it very high?
I'm interested in this point because I'll probably use this sail with the extender (I'm about 70kg so i whould work..) but I really don't want to damage my viper aero which is not very indicated with "race" sails..

I think you will find the opposite with the RAM ... once planing they are ultra comfortable and stable just like all race sails ... as you would know the downside with race sails is (1) the luff sleeve width if you drop your sail is heavy to uphaul (2) the thump with the cams during gybing and (3) the slightly reduced power (minimal).
FWIW ... I find the 9.0m RAM much easier than the 9.0m Daytona. The Daytona was a more powerful sail but always seemed unbalanced whilst the RAM is much more stable, faster and balanced .... and hence enjoyable. Haven't tried the Prisma or S-Type though.

Thanks for you reply matt!
I've read about the monofilm problems you have with 08 sails, do you have it with all your 08 sails?
I don't know about the RAM, i fear it would be too unconfortable with the high foil tension and the 3-4 cam..
And concidering the size I'm looking for it'd turn to a disaster having a not proper big sail...
I already have a R_type 7.8 06 and I'm really fine with it so I was thinking about its "successors" Prisma or S_type.
Still no decision yet..

Whilst I own a large quiver of the 08 North sails, I actually wouldn't recommend them. I think the monofilm is dodgy this year as you may have read in my other thread. Very strange. I am guessing that it was not the same supplier as in earlier years and/or different spec for the monofilm.
I would love to ask this question direct to North (like you can with Maui Sails & Barry) but alas we will never know the answer.
Oh well .. hopefully they will hold out for a few years, then I'll switch to Sailworks or Simmer.

|matt12||Personally I think you would be better off going for a fast slippery RAM F8. Not quite the same planing power but a nicer feel once you get planing. I haven't had too much luck with the more power oriented sails - although I haven't tried North's 08 offerings in that department - only 07.|
