namreh A week ago I used my Overdrive 8.5mē 2008 with good result on my Futura 111.

Futura 111 + overdrive 8.5mē + select rs7 43cm (powerfull lightwind fin)
spot: Dutch lake
I'm quite heavy (95kg ) and tall (1.9m)

It was for me a big test and a good test. Other people where using the isonic 133 with 8.2mē vapors.

Also with my previous s-type's I always used a bigger sail then indicated and it always worked out very good.

Maximus ONe board size usually has 2 sail sizes that work best. A 6m with the 133, would feel, not so good. The second sail size should always be the largest for your next board down. Simply put its easier to use another board to increase wind range, than rigg up another sail. so 133/105 is a good combo.

You really have to decide, in what conditions you are looking to get the most out of your gear. At 70kg I would have this combo F122/F93. Sail 8m V8, 6.5v8 & perhaps a 5.4/5.8. Where 6.5 is great on the 122, and superb on the F93 (I should know as I had one). With good technique and a larger slalom fin (46cm) , the 122/8m will still get you going in 10 knots of wind or less @ 70kg, even in a lake

Hope this helps

I am 70kg. Thanks for the advice. My other board is a JP xcite 105 which will take a 7m so I guess the 2 boards meet in the middle but no overlap. Sailing a 133 with a 6m is not fun. I do sail it with a 7m but with a 40 cm fin. It was in this area that I figured the 122 would be superior to both boards especially on a lake with wind holes.

James I agree with kvda. For 8.5 conditions, the 133 you have is probably as good as it gets. If I were you I would just experiment with different tuning (downhaul, outhaul, footstraps, mast base position, fins, riding style, etc.) until you get the feel you're looking for.

kvda with that information, i would say the 8.5v8 is more in the sweet spot of the futura 133. Dont think in normal 8.5 circumstances the 122 is much (if any) faster than the 133, besides more overpowered conditions - but maybe a SB crewmember can correct this if i'm wrong. of course the 133 is more stable in non planing conditions...

seasharp I have a Futura 133 and it feels a bit big or wide, so I was thinking of trading it for a 122. It won't plain as quickly but hopefully it will be faster when it gets going. I just hope it doesn't feel awkward off the plain with an 8.5, like the Isonic 122.

Hi Seasharp, i've sailed the futura 122 and for sure it will take a V8 8.5 comfortably. I've sailed the 122 with Code Red 3 8.3 and 7.7 and both felt great. The 122 is an easy, forgiving but also fast board! You'll love it.

Futura 122 with 8.5m sail?

I see on this site that the Futura 122 will take a 9m sail. But in practice, on fresh water, will it take an 8.5 V8 comfortably?
