|Jean-Marc||The trick from Ola with feeler gauge for car spark plugs worked fine to unlock the SDM mast of a friend of mine. Sand was sneaking in from the top part of the mast without a mast plug and got trapped at the junction from inside apparently.|

The grease will attract and hold the sand particles.
Using grease may help to keep the sand out, but if it gets
in the joint, you would have to use a solvent (like gasoline or
diesel fuel) to break down the grease so it releases the sand
That's why soap is so good.
It will rinse away in water and release and trapped sand or grit.
Hot fresh water will rinse the soap out very quickly.
Do continue to tape the joint as that is the best defense against
sand getting in the mast joint.

At the place where I usually windsurf there is I always some fine sand or silt in suspension in the water, but I never had any problem so far, if I tape around the junction.
For some reasons, the last three outings the mast gets stuck.
I have some synthetic grease lubricant left. It is a whitish, tooth-paste like grease, available at the at the automobile department of major stores.
I wonder if this can solve the problem like , or better, than the soap. or if there are any counter indications.

use 2 booms on both sides and use Liquid Wrench

WD-40 will ATTRACT a lot of sand.
Better to use bathtub soap on the joint and the suggested electrical tape over the joint.
A bar of soap is really the perfect windsurfing lubricant.
It stays on pretty well in fresh water and for a really long time in salt water.
Works on boom extensions, mast joints, center board slides and pivots, fins fitting into

|Sel||a good spraying of wd40 over the end sections and a bit of electrical tape around the mast joint when you rig up will stop that happening again. ever.|

Clove hitch knot technique from F-150 post above worked for me - thanks for the great tip.
I used a slight variation that maybe helpful to others.
1. Used the clove hitch knot on one end of mast and then fastened to the frame of my car. This allowed me to pull on the other side of the mast.
2. On the other end of the mast I tugged about 12 times with a jerking type of motion. By jerk 5 to 6 I started to notice a bit of mast separation. Likely obvious but when you are jerking make sure the mast is beside you because when it comes loose there is some re-coil and if it went into your mid-section it would hurt

|ic_spotz||Ford F-150, Straps and a palm tree worked for me!!! I tried all those other methods with no success. A couple of clove hitches on each section of mast... one end to the tree and the other to my trailer hitch. A little bit of pucker factor as I let off the brake and gave it a little gas but it popped apart with no damage.|
