Joe, you hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I am wondering. Are people indeed putting big sails on a go and having any success with it? And is there a difference in the models? For me performance is secondary, I just want a fun board for the summer days when the winds aren't super strong. I'm all set for the fall storms with a Mistral Screamer. Was considering a Formula Experience or large Futura, but as you said the play value wouldn't be there. So still looking for any experience on a Go in the 10-11m range. |

personally do NOT have a GO however ... i am about the same weight and use a 10-oh if winds are not steady enough, even the 10-0h can be awkward the 85 cm has a tail or OFO that would suffice for a 10-oh, butt not 11-oh as you correctly guessed do you really wanna put $1500-$2000 worth of sail on a GO ?? can you GO over? probably yes, butt again - BIG investment :-( know people are not so excited about longboards any more, but i find the 10-oh works better on my Fanatic CAT than on my 160 liter/79 cm shortboard personally NEVER anticipated ANYONE putting an 11-oh on a GO butt then again, what the heck do i know ?? :-) Formula ?? can the family play on that ?? |

Starboard Go 2011/12 Shapes versus 2010 I hear lots of good things about the larger Go s. I'm looking for a larger light wind board 8-12kn that could also be fun for the family in the summer. I do want to be able to rig a big sail something like an 11m2 - my biggest is 9.0 at the moment. I am wondering why the width/shape of the Starboard 171 2011/12 changed to smaller and longer causing a max sail de-rating from 11m2 to 10m2 from the 2010 model (91 to 85.5cm width). Does anyone have experience on the 2011/12 Go with sails in the 10/11 range? Is the stated spec more of an "ideal" spec; i.e. can a larger sail be made to work? I am 210lb, so I can handle a larger sail. My preference would be to go with a newer model, as I like the second fin box option if I want to teach anyone else to windsurf. But if there is a noticeable impact in maximum sail range, I may have to reconsider. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks. |
