...some basic respect
Now there is a very good word.

And one anyone who considers they understand or belong to a "surf" based culture should understand.

Especially those who would sign their name as surfman.

Don't you just love it when "great people" talk sense

(and gang up on the idiots)

Ian, it is a mistake to go back to "guests" feeling 'Free' to abuse sensible forum users - they may not bother returning if they are abused online.

Shame for them but moreso shame on Starboard for not providing a safe environment to allow people to express themselves in a secure and nurturing way.

Responsibility is an important word.

Too few people take it seriously (enough)

RE: Free Forum NOT FREE

No problem with the "new" free forum for me.
The world consists of 99% great people and 1% idiots...
On the old forum some of those 1% spoiled a lot of the relevant discussions around the actual subjects of this forum (windsurfing..).
I'm not against fun, sharp talking and weirdies, but to me FREE still includes some basic respect.
Actually I think it's mostly okay fun and information on this forum and not too much (if any) marketing bullshit from Starboard..

RE: Free Forum NOT FREE

I too do not understand the hoo ha that this registration seems to cause. I visited this forum when there was no registration and some of the posts were lets say 'less than helpful'. In fact, as time went on it just became a melting pot for any idiot with a keyboard to post completely ridiculous rants in the name of humour.

I look at the forum now and I see much less of that. It has become more helpful as a resource, people are still able to seek advice (even about other brands) and people are still free to post an opinion (good or bad) on StarBoard products.

In the previous situation people interpreted 'free' to mean 'anything goes', and since this is a StarBoard site I understand they wanted to end that. If you want a completely free forum to air ridiculous views and be insulting, just start your own website

RE: Free Forum NOT FREE

For the record...

The Free Forum is in fact still meant to be Free and open to post/reply by either registered (logged in) or unregistered/un-loggedin use. There is a problem in the code, resulted from a minor fix being patched in over other work, created a code conflict with the mods running the Free side of Free Forum, and, well, here we are.

It is our intention to have the Free back to Free ASAP.

Tony does a very good job for Starboard in a complex, multi IT role and does not cut the code for this Forum. When the decision to use the current Forum system was taken, the only one of many involved who was not in that decision was me. I could go on, but fortunately I'm disinterested in arguing what we can't change, and more importantly interested in what we CAN do enough to keep it moving.
Yes, Phill, it has had it's moments..

I'm baffled but disinterested in explaining to guys who don't appreciate the simple, positive fun and spirit which the Contributor incentive was offered. And yeah, the shirt each month can be dismissed as $5, and the board at the end $2000. And yes, we have offered it clearly to promote good, positive contribution to our Forums. Not ass kissing. (What would we learn from that ?) We don't care what your name is, what language you speak, or where you come from. Our ONLY simple caveat is if you don't register, we can't be sure you are you.

I'll leave it at that for now, F1 in Melb tomorrow, so that's me, leave you to it..

Cheers ~ Ian

What? Arrogance and stupidity go hand in hand, you don't often find one without the other. As to quibbling about what the word free means, I suggest you abandon the pursuit.

Duracell,

Maybe people would respond to your posts if you improved your attitude.

It takes no effort to be polite. Instead you choose to moan, or berate peoples efforts.

I'm sure the forum had been politically a right pain in the rear for starboard through the years but they continue to provide the service when other manufacturers have dropped theirs. For that, starboard and all those who post worthwhile comments should be applauded.

If you're not happy with the current forum, there are thousands of other forums you could join.

p.s. There is an edit button that could save you copying the same garbage many times

RE: Free Forum NOT FREE

Why bother,

- Free isn't free
- the normal nowaday contributer (don't mean everyone mind u e.g. some of the old crew -like Dolf- still visit once in a while) are somewhat far away from life/reality/windsurfing
- real posts get no or utterly useles to unqualified response (see actual post I was interested in), informational side posts like this one "rule" the forum...

quintessence: the quality of this forum has beed deteriorating since wonder tony (wonder if he actually gets paid for his "work", breadcrumbs?) has been changing this site under the "supervision" of grandiose surfer but web/IT ignorant Ian.

Yours truely

BTW. It is a surprise that anything works (trying to post this as a reply involes writing, posting, copy and pasting (some brainless under skilled webprogrammer offered some random features without marking them as such) and then posting again in a different window (adding this litte remark to it).

Just making sure, it doesn't work everytime you know
