Regarding sb's post above, just a word of caution. With my switch to RDMs, I did some research on the different mast extensions that incorporate the Euro-pin concept. I really liked the bulletproof nature of the latest Streamline red skinny mast extension, and I was fully prepared to buy one. However, my strategy also included using Chinook's latest stainless steel universal which I acquired last summer.

Surprisingly, when I went to buy the Streamline mast extension, I found that the Chinook Euro-pin doesn't work in combination with it. Although the mast extension accepts the Chinook pin, it didn't properly lock into place. I should point out that there were no problems whatsoever with use of the Streamline Euro-pin universal in combination with the Streamline mast extension. Later, I did some checking and found that the Streamline universal incorporates the North brand pin, so there's something unusual or different about Chinook's pin that creates the problem. It's interesting to note that there was no problem integrating a Fiberspar skinny mast extension with the Chinook Euro-pin universal. Yet, I ultimately found that the Fiberspar mast extension was seriously flawed and not worthy of use.

So, if you plan to mix and match different brand Euro-pin universals with the Streamline product, you would be wise to check the connection to ensure that its viability.

You can cut down the 40 cm power-extendo to 35 cm and put a 5 cm streamlined base on to make a very strong 40 cm extension.
Under that, the new red reinforced streamlined 46 cm bases work well

Hi SB

I wouldn't know about formula sails, maybe I should've said - my experience is with a freerace slalom (Daytona specifically, but I believe it would be the same with a warp).
You are probably right (about the stiffness), but if you need 30-40cm, then you can't use North Xtender fixed @ 50cm.

the pryde forum has moved to the RSX page.
When I first found it the only new post were porn spam, now removed, so a forum where you can only post if you register dosn't solve that issue.
There are still forums where registration is optional (Areotech)
Wonder if Svein has sold out to the corporation?

th ecarbon extendor is really the only system that works with the big formula sails that reuire more than 30 cm of base. No base is strong enough with todays required downhaul

Regarding the mast extender concept, I can't claim to know who originated the idea, but I can say that it isn't a new idea. I know that Bill Hansen, formerly the founder and designer of Windwing Sails, was offering fixed length 40 and 60cm mast extenders in his line of branded products in 1998, as I verified it a published Windwing brochure for that year.

Actually, when you go back and review history, you will find that Bill Hansen was a serious innovator that advanced many sound ideas. Often I don't think he gets the credit that he really deserves.

North Xtender is maybe an interesting idea, but it's not working that well, at least not with bigger cammed sails. It will save you some $$$ and you will sail alright, but performance is MUCH better with a proper mast. Tried and tested.

Hmmm, the innovator in this case is North Sails not NP, they are the first to really explore the xtender system and designing thier saisl around it. Nad they came up with the Power XT which is truly an innovative product!

True. I wonder if anyone will ever go back and investigate old patents for WS equipment that disappeared due to other factors than performance or utility.
