Windsurfing in Melbourne
Hey
I was wondering if anyone who sails or has sailed in Melbourne could tell me about the weather conditions. From summer to winter. Can you just wear board shorts in the summer or do u need a shorty? Also what about in winter, how cold does the water get, can you sail comfortably in a 4/3 steamer? If anyone can get back to me that would be great, thanks a lot. David |
RE: Melbourne water temp
Board shorts only on very hot days, but often OK in summer with 1mm wetsuit top. Winter is fine with 4/3 but maybe insulating rashie and booties on really cold days. Check out this link and great site for Melb sailing weather and temps - see you there!

RE: Windsurfing in Melbourne
Our Autumn is March to end of May, locally called "The Doldrums", when you might be lucky to sail only one day at the weekend.
Water temp begins to drop from the current 20 deg. C to about 8 deg. C in August. Please spend some time hunting around the link given above: it's a mine of excellent information (and it should be: it's generated by a windsurfer who works for the Weather Bureau. Hope this helps, Regards, Windman |
RE: Windsurfing in Melbourne
Hi thanks,
I wanted to get a membership and a locker at the Elwood Sailing club. Can anyone become a member and is there a waiting list for lockers? |
RE: Windsurfing in Melbourne
Re locker at Elwwod.
Please be advised that this club is a yacht club. You might try the following e-mail address to get a firm answer: secretary@elwoodsc.com If you are going to sail in that area, the local windsurf store is Repeat Performance: www.rpstheboardstore.com/ Hope this helps, Regards, Windman |
