The right sail
I've currently had a 6.0 07 Severne NCX with my 130 Starboard go for a few years now. I managed to rip my sail pretty good and I'm looking into getting a new one. I'm on a lake in Canada where the wind is never really constant and is very on and off even on 50 km/h+ days.
Im looking into getting a Severne Turbo 7.0
Also if i were to get this sail, I have a 430 FIBERSPAR REFLEX 4200 QT 55% CARBON mast, would it be okay just to get a larger mast extension instead of getting a whole new mast? I'm trying to save as much money as possible but still get the most overall performance. Am I making a mistake by not getting the recommended mast Redline 460?

lake sailing in canada, gusty and $$$
i sail on a lake and the St-Lawrence around Montreal. On the lake I have given up trying to plane with my shortboard. I now only use my old slim longboard on the lake. I am a heavyweight and have used my 7.0 and 8.5 on this board on the lake. I find it glides more than planing and does not have this constant on/off feeling. My 7.0 is also cammed and when i replace the 8.5 it will be cammed too. SO, for me cams and longboard helped on the lake.
Personally i am against these long extensions on modern sails. When in a jam I just buy an old used sail until i can get a better used sail. This takes patience and sometimes a few good drives to check stuff out.
I look more at the used stuff than the new now :(
Sorry, your Fiberspar 430 QT (Quick Tip) 55% 430 cm mast has at least 2 things that make it unsuitable for
use in a Severne 7.0-7.5 m2 sail.
1/ The IMCS of your mast is most likely IMCS 21-23.
2/ Your mast is a QT (Quick Tip) which means it's almost a "flex top" mast.
Neither of these factors will make your new or used 7.0-7.5 m2 sail rig very well.
To get the most from any sail, you need to get a mast with the IMCS characteristics the
sail was designed on/for.
You do not have that with your Fiberspar 430.
At 55% you Fiberspar is probably quite heavy for a 430 cm mast.
Look for a 460 IMCS mast with at least 75-80% carbon content.
The Severne recommended "best mast" (Redline 460) will be significantly lighter and
your new sail will rig correctly on this mast, giving you the best value and performance from
both the mast and the sail.
If the Redline 460 mast is too expensive, look for a good used Powerex 460/Sailworks Speedstick
or Joystick 460. These masts will be the same or very nearly as good as the Severne Redline 460 and
all have the correct IMCS (25), bend characteristics (constant curve), and => 75% carbon content.

I'm guessing at 50 kmph a 7.5 or even a 7.0 would give you serious control problems unless you weigh enough that the 6.0 is too small to get you planing at 30 kmph.
Is the 6.0 & 130L GO a decent combination for planing at 30 kmph unless there are technique or weight issues?
On top of the comments of Roger, I will say this Fibrerspar Mast will not good at all for the any Cams Severne sails for a simple reason, his diameter is way to big.
The Turbo sail work very well on the Severne Blue Line mast and are cheaper than the Red Line.
