diffrence isonics 133 and 105 2006 and 2007

Hi,

I own to isonics 133/105 2006. do i feel a lot off diffrence when i buy the 2007 ones?

I sail in in very choppy conditions.

greeting,

erik

RE: diffrence isonics 133 and 105 2006 and 2007

I have an iS105 (dram) and sailed it back to back with an iS101 (wood). The conditions were 4.8 conditions for me (and choppy). I noticed the iS101 was stiffer, but I expect part of this was as a result of the wood construction. I felt more of a locked-in feeling when on the iS101 too. Also, the jibes seemed a little smoother.

I did not sail the iS101 enough to note speed differences, but since I felt more in control, I expect there would have been a slight benefit to the iS101 (wood) over the iS105 (dram).

Personally, I'm happy with iS105 for now. I look forward to seeing the changes for 2008 & 2009 though!

I have sailed both the iS 105 DRAM and the iS 105 WOOD; I can confirm that the difference in stiffness between the two boards is very significant. I am almost 100% sure that the difference in stiffness between the 101 WOOD and the 105 DRAM felt by 02bnme had everything to do with the different manufacturing technologies.
BTW, after experiencing the difference in performance between the two technologies, I can tell that it more than justifies the difference in price; personally, I would prefer to delay the purchase of a new board until I can afford the wood construction, rather than get a DRAM board earlier.

I would be keen to know whether the 101 has less of a tendency to get its nose caught in the water at the bottom of waves than the 105, or whether it is the same deal. Has anyone had a chance to compare?

Hi Erik,

Comparing the iS133 and iS101 with previous 2006 shapes, you will most likely feel more difference in the 101 over the 105 than the 133 over 135. This also has to do with the conditions that you'll be pushing the 101/105 in, rather than the easier/lighter conditions of the 133/135. For me(and alot of others) the 101 is really an "outstanding" model in the 2007 line, not to imply the others are not (at all! ) but there are really a couple of magic ones this year.. it's been well stated before that 101 is on that exclusive list.

As for the construction differences (not really the original discussion), yes, the difference is "feelable", as commented by o2 and Thierry above. For 2007 iS101 models, the choice of Dram/ Technora vs Wood is made easy for you...

For thierry, yes, the tendency to catch the nose in the bottom of waves is less with the 101, but maybe more subtly due to improved trim on the board overall, which allows the board to be pushed on safely in conditions that definitely don't feel very safe..if you get the idea.
It is fair to say that although in general the iS range is a very accessible "slalom" design - and relatively easy to ride in mild to moderate slalom conditions, it does have additional "over power" (wild)range that requires a more techincal stle/approach/commitment to get the very most from. In this regard, it is not unlike a lot of other racing machines in the world. Even discussing this seems like it's a beast - it is not at all - but ridden to extremes can also be a satisfying challenge - and result indeed.

Cheers ~ Ian

Very funny Ian. I like the comment about choices being made for us. Yup, I can have the 101 in wood or in ... wood. ;-) It is worth it in wood as I mentioned in my prior post. Very good board. I hope to get 6.6 conditions to test the 101 in while at Windfest @ OBX in April. I found that I really liked my 105 in those conditions.
