IS 90 vs IS87: confusing Fin/Sail Combo

Hello Remi,

since my lovely IS87 (2011 model) quit last week (large delamination on the bottom) ; i needed to get a replacement. I was lucky to get a new 2013 Carbon IS90 right away. I understand from your web site that this board is a new shape and a direct evolution from the IS87, but supposed to be still rather close to it. The board looks great and I cant wait to give it a try !

What confuses me now is the different sail / fin range indications you are giving.

In the web specficiation one can find the following info
  • sail range: for both IS87 and IS 90 is given as 5.1 to 7.0
  • fin range: is given for IS87 as 30-36 and for IS90 32-38

Now there is on top of this the red sticker at the tail of each board. This stickers is specifying for IS87 fin/sail combos such as
5.0 / 5.4 / 5.8 / 6.2 / 6.8 / 7.2
30 / 32 / 34 / 34 / 34 / 36
I can alo read there that best combo is indicated as 5.8/34

On the IS90 the sticker says
5.6 / 6.2 / 7.0 / 7.8
32 / 34 / 36 / 36
Best combo indicated as 7.0 / 36.

My personal experience shows more 6.2 with 32 is(was) the sweet spot of the IS87.

Can you please clarify this up for me. What would be your recommendations for the following sail sizes (5.8 / 6.4 / 7.0), one in figure 8 slalom setting and one in GPS speed setting for the IS90. what other hints you might have for me ?

edit: my weight is around 95 kg.

Thanks in advance !

I had the 87 last year and used 34/6.2 and 32/5.6. I have the new 90 and use the same fin combo and they work great.
