88 or 99 flare

I'm 14 years old and I weigh 55 kg. I'm going to buy a flare really soon so I need your advice. I'll be sailing on 5.6 and 5.0 sails, but sometimes also on a 3.7. Am i going to have truoble popping the 99? Whats the difference between the boards? Is the 88 much less stable than the 99?

thanks for your replies!

Hi guys,

For you Dennis at 55kg i would recommend the 88 but as you grow you may put on weight so you may have to think about the future. Im about 67kg and the 99 is just about perfect if not a tad too big. It think you should be fine on the 88 so go for it!

Hi Dennis,
I defenitely recommend the Flare 88 to you. The board gives you much enough lift. Know some boys who are a bit heavier than you (10 kg +) and make it really aesy on the 88.
No question, go for the 88, which has a much wider windrange for you.
All the best,

Guest and Chris, thank you for your replies!
They're very helpful, but they just say ''go for the 88''. What I wanted to know is why is the 88 better for me. Please help me with this one it's a really big decision for me and i really don't want to make a mistake here...

thanks, Dennis

RE: 88 or 99 flare
Hi Dennis,

I think the two recommendations above for the 88 are quite solid. At your present weight, the larger 99 Flare will require too much effort to advance your goals, especially given the sail sizes that you have targeted. It's not that you couldn't potentially throw around the 99, it would just take much more input and you really don't need the extra width and volume.

However, it very likely that your weight will grow significantly as you mature. If your intent to have the board for 3-5 years, and it's important to buy a board that you can grow into, maybe a 99 choice has some merit in the long run. I guess you need to decide whether you want to be hampered in the near future using a board that would be less than ideal for your present size.

RE: 88 or 99 flare

After giving it some more thought, I've decided to go for the 88 flare. I hope I went the righjt way i'll let you know what the board is like when i get a chance to try it out.

Thanks again for your help!
