The World's Coolest boat ??
What is Earthrace ??

Earthrace is a 24m (78ft) tri-hull wavepiercer that has been designed and built specifically to get the record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe. She is an advanced endurance vessel, capable of submarining up to 7m (23ft) underwater as she powers across oceans. One journalist recently reported "Earthrace is like a rally car but for oceans, with her ability to handle rough seas and storm conditions at high speed."

The goal of Earthrace is to set a new world record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe, running 100% renewable biodiesel fuel, and with a net zero carbon footprint.

The amazing Earthrace boat will make the attempt, starting on 29 March, 2008, from Sagunto in Spain.

Earthrace is also undertaing a two year promotional tour, visiting 100 great cities around the globe, where the crew meet local people, talk about their experiences, and most of all connect with people about the need to get renewable fuels into our energy mix.

Is that legit? The video footage on the website didn't look that impressive and I wasn't convinced. Maybe those guys have just done some basic mods to a scarab and are trying to fool guys into spending big $$$ on their ticket to join the crew!?

Check out these facts
It seems powerboats are pretty slow

Tbe voyage starts in Sagunto, Spain, and the crew hopes to complete the voyage in under 65 days. The current record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe is currently 74 days, 23 hours and 53 minutes. This record was set by UK boat ‘Cable & Wireless Adventurer’ in 1998.

The Jules Verne Trophy has been held by Olivier de KERSAUSON and the crew of the trimaran Geronimo, in 63 days, 13h 59mins, since the 29th April 2004.

The absolute round the world record has been held by the American Steve FOSSETT, in 58 days, 09h, 32mins, since 5 April 2004.

Yeah and sailing boats spend time becalm in the doldrums

stink boats are so stinky
that earth boat is so slow

Unregistered 6th March 2008 08:48 PM

they were slow because of refueling issues at some legs of the journey(there were some structural issues as well).
trying to go round burning ONLY biodiesel is not as easy as one thinks.
