Fin whistling results from subtle design flaws or a construction error. Ask your dealer to get a replacement.

If you have to buy a new fin, I would avoid the Drakes. As Franc says, spin out is a problem with the 2008 fins. I have the iS 111 and the 38 fin has major spin out problems. Part of this is rider style, since the fins have a small foil and are designed to be fast for down wind racing. A little too much pressure on the back foot and you are sailing sideways and they are very difficult to pull back in after a spin out. It also spins out over chop.

Hi joshjosh

I had the same problem on my iSonic 2007 101 34 cm Drake fin last year which was very annoying. I posted the problem on a thread and was told to slight 'water sandpaper' the back end at a 45 degree angle etc etc but never managed to stop the fin whistling. In the end I went and bought Techtonic fins and solved the problem once and for all. Bottom line is that the Drake fins are second rate fins in my opinion should not be supplied at least with the iSonic line cause they are not good for the job. Basically it's like buying a Ferrari which is supplied with tyres suitable for a tractor if you catch my drift ha ha.

I honestly do not think the fins are that bad. Yes, my Tectonics are better but I wouldn't say the stock fins are bad. I quite like the whistle as it starts very close to the 30kt mark on my 115.

Hi Phill104

Which Tectonics do you favour, and under what conditions?

I'm (85kg) looking for a 2008 iS122 with 6.6; 7.6; and 8.2 on pretty flat to inner harbour chop. B&F and off-wind blasting.

Thanks - Martin

I only have the F1 Falcons which I find great for downwind blasting mainly on a choppy lake or on a harbour. I have tried the Goldwings which I felt had better upwind performance but were not as smooth downwind. Both managed the chop brilliantly.

I've not tried any other fins in their range.
