Select fins and iSonics?
What about this combination? Any experience?

Phill104 16th May 2008 01:09 AM

I've had a few select fins over the years and use a couple in my iSonics simple as they are easy to get hold of. In years past I would say they were a lot better than the stock fins but over the last 2 seasons the stock fins have improved a huge amount closing the gap.

I use MFC fin's on all the Isonic boards.

I like them for my boards as they give the board so much control and I feel that the board is faster with the MFC fin's.

I have tested the select fins last year on the Isonic and didn't like it so much it feels that the board is slower.

I met Taty when he was i Sweden some weeks ago and I've since than swithed to MFC on the isonic101 (38 cm) and I do agree with Taty, it works very well!

Where are you now Taty, Finland?

I am at the Moment in ESTONIA.. just finish with the event here had a winner to represent Estonia on bonaire for the pro-kids event. happy about that

not so cold water but the air is cold. had sailed for one hour in totaal in the weekend, due to very gusty wind. and the wind only lasted for 30minuuts on sunday. and same on Monday. but well it's better then nothing... ;)

Will head to Norway by Friday thru the weekend, then back home to Bonaire on the 26th,

Taty, did you ever try the crossride fins? When you state that MFC fins felt faster, you then never did check it with a monitoring device, right?

I use a 39 cm Select S05 with iS 111 and a 49 cm Select RS7 with iS 133; both iS boards are 2007 model.

I think S05 (Select Elite semi custom series but old model) is really a very fast fin: I just used it yesterday on water and I was a lightning !!!

I was with iS 111 & 7.3 against two friends with 2008 iS 122, same sail but with Techart and MFC slalom fins: I smoke them on all aspects -> speed, acceleration and up-wind angle.

I'm very satisfied about this fin; I think it is just as good as custom Deboichet slalom fins.

RS7 instead (prepeg, less expensive version of S07) is a newer but cheaper product; I use it with iS 133 and 9.0 but it's very soft and, I have to admit, I'm not fully satisfied with it. Anyway it's a decent fin, little better than stock Drake fins.

In the end, having to buy a performance Select fin for your iS, stay on Select Elite semi custom series (S07).

At top national or PWA levels Debs, C3 etc are (for most) the way to go. But for fun Selects are great.

I'm using:
iS144 - Select Ultra 58cm/Warp 11m in 8 to 12knots, Select Superfast 49 12 knots & above on Warp 9m/11m.

iS111 - Select Viper 43cm Warp 7.8/9m. (could get away with 38/39cm Viper)

iS76 - Select Lightning Evo 29/31/35 for Warp 5.4/5.8/6.4/6.8. The Lightning Evo's are great for slalom on the iS76, but on a speed course I use Techtonic Falcon 26/28/30 which are faster than Lightnings, but dont have the same upwind or power/accelleration as the Lightnings.

Seems like all Selects are good low cost option but avoid the 2006 models.

Tnx for your quick answer. I have 3 iS2008. 86, 111, 133 and I am using them with 5,5; 6,7; 7,6; and 9,0 Gaastra Vapors and stock fins. Wich Select models and sizes could improve may performance. Iam 96kg!
