Hi ichzgw,
The camber induced Element sail will be slightly heavier, yes, but having the draft in the sail "locked in" by camber inducers may give you significantly better performance, especially in winds < 13 knots.
I would suggest an 8.5 m2 sail if you have the skills.
You need to try out an 8.5 m2 first.
Borrow one at the beach for a few minutes if you have to.
Hope this helps,

What mast are you planning to use?
Red Line 460 cm (IMCS 25) with 30 cm extension= 490 cm (100%) 1.55 Kg./3.417 Lbs.
Blue Line 460 cm (IMCS 25) with 30 cm extension= 490 cm (75%) 2.10 Kg./4.629 Lbs.
White Line 460 cm (IMCS 25) with 30 cm extension= 490 cm (40%) 2.20 Kg./4.85 Lbs.
The weight of the mast can make quite a difference.
You might be choosing the right sail as the Element 2 needs a 490 cm mast.
Hope this helps,
