S TYPE 137 2006 - V8 9,0 Compatability

I wonder if my S TYPE 137 2006 could carry a V8 9,0 sail? The recommendations are only for up to 8.5 sails. Isn't this a very low limitation for a 137 litres freerace board?

Best regards,

Panos

Hi Panos,
I'm pretty sure the 9.0 m2 V8 will work OK on the ST 137.
You might like this combination, and then again maybe you won't.
A more germaine question is perhaps what exactly are you trying
to do.
In my opinion, the S-Types really aren't "early planers" and going with
a 9.0 m2 V8 seems to indicate you want to get the board going in less
wind that it takes to get it "powered up".
Give it a try..... you will of course need a larger fin to work with the
bigger rig.
Hope this helps,

Thank you for your reply.

If I understood you right you mean that it will be OK when working with the 9,0 a bit overpowered and maybe not so good when underpowered (looking to work the breeze so you can plane). The fin supplied with the board was a 48 cm which is very close to what is needed if you use the equation 5 x 9,0 + 4 = 49 cm.

Hi Blast,
The NP V8 is one of the most powerful light wind sails around.
Not sure your "equation" is going to work with a sail this powerful
and a slalom oriented board like the S-Type 137.
Give it a try, if it spins out alot, look for a 52-56 cm slalom fin.
I've never been able to apply mathematical "equations" to windsurfing
equipment.
Sometimes the formulas work out, often they do not.
Hope this helps,
