training
what you consider a good training for a weekend sailor?
two or three days , cardio or weights? |
three days cardio and weights. If you can find a good circuit training course would work out the best which combines the both.

Hy Kevin,
I am a regional / national level surfer. I do slalom and formularacing. Last year I don't sail as much as I used to. Last weekend with a local race I had the biggest problems holding the boom with my hands. I have these problems espessially using longsleeve wetsuits and large diameter booms. Is there a good exersice for solving this problem? Do I need stronger mussles or longer mussles (stretching)? Thanx, Rambo. |
Rambo,
There are some exersizes you can do.. I dont know how to describe them but I am sure if you google forearm excersize you will find tons of things to do. Also make sure that you have a big wetsuit in the arms. I usually never wear long sleeve wetsuits even on the coldest days in Germany or even in Holland. I would rather go a bit more cold than have the arms pump up. kevin |

I agree with Kevin! I had the same problem a couple of winters ago. I'd put on a long sleeve wet suit and in about 20 minutes of sailing I couldnt hold on to the booms. I was the wet suit sleaves being too tight. I switched wet suits and bought a Promotion wet suit. (http://www.wetsuit.com/) They cut the arms big, It's only snug at the wrists. That solve the my problem. Good Luck! Mike |
