Isonic 111 or 122

I'm 85kg and intend to use sails from 6.8 to 8.8. I love speed, and the 111 looks faster, but what about early planning in low wind ? Is the 8.8 to big on the 111 with my weight ?

Go with the 122 iSonic fins not bigger then 44 in the 8.8m sail and all the way down to 38cm.
I recommend VEctor Fins Canefire for that board www.vectorfins.com

Hi,

I am 93 kg and I ordered now the iSonics 122 (for 8.5) and 101 (7.5 and 6.5).
I was thinking of 111 too, but for me it would be at least semi-sinker, and i rather go for two boards than to a single sinker board.

Ciao Michal.

Morten
I'm 86kg and I've sailed/tried several boards around that size (hyper, different iSonics 105-122). I use 7.3 and 9.0 sails on my 122 and for smaller sails there are better boards (6.8 not ideal). 8.8 will be a bit large for 111 if you use it a lot, expect slogging, etc.

Like Mim says, covering 6.7 to 9.0 range (about 10-20+ knots) is very demanding, imho almost impossible with a single board, you must compromise somewhere. If you sail mostly with 8.8 down to 7.3 I think 122 is your best bet. For 6.8 to 8.0 range (and only occasionally 8.8), then it's 111.

Good luck

Yeah; I may have to go for 2 boards. I think I will go for the 122, so I can sail with the 8.8 in low wind. Then I will have to use the old Carve 111 for more wind; and start saving for the Isonic 101 or 94, to replace it.

Not many people use that combo (three sizes apart), but one of my mates use iS122 and 94. Works very well in my opinion, and the crossover sail is between 7.0 and 7.5.

Hi my answer is a little bit more radical, my weight is 68 kg 174 in height.
so it`s hard for me to obtain more from big sails.
Using a 6.8 when you use a 8.8, gives me another point of view about the right dimension of the board. In my case would you suggest the 122, the 111 or the 101 ?
I` m surfing since 1976 and know something about.

Hello....i weight 90 kg...i have the isonic 111 lt 08,2009 models, using them with an 8.3 severne code red....8.8 will be too much for the 111.it works but not to good....the perfect rig for this board is 8.3,it's a must for our weight...
122 gets planning in +1 or 2 knotsless wind but you won't find the speed 111 has,no way...
IF you can buy 2 boards then 122 with a 9.0 sail and 101 with a 7.5 is a good combination,or 111 with a 8.3 (or 8.1) and 133 with a 9.0+ sail....

hi Morten,

I have the same question in my mind (111 or 122?) but I weigh 66kg and have also a 90liter board.
If I were 85kg like you I guess I would go definitely for 122 as my bigger board.
And yes, then start saving for the 101...!
