101 0r 111 for light weight in lightwind ?
So it seems that for a 68 kg sailor, the 111 is the biggest joyce, but what' s with the 101 for light to medium wind ?
Whats the minimum in knots that I can sail efficiently with the 101 and how much with the 111 (with my 68 kg) and sails around 7-7.5 ?

Is there someone with experience to answer this ?

My experience with this two boards is 101 need at least a 7.8 sail to go in about 14-16 knots and the 111 needs a 8.4 sail to go on 11-14 knots. Fins are at least 40 to 44cm in the 101 and 42-48 on the 111. I rather use my 122 with 7.8 to 8.4 in that wind.
I am 77 kilos.

I think you could do much better, the problem especially with cambered sails is that if you choose too big sail you can just be passive in pumping.

what modle board are you looking at and what kind of 7.0-7.5 do you think you will be using?

I have tried a isonic 100 of past years today, have to say that my impression is totally different from Nonpr. The 7 was the max on this board with just 15 knots, a full cambered Yes. Thats my impression (68Kg). I think the board is much more for smaller sails in stronger winds. I believe the 111 would be much more comfortable from 13 to 17 knots with a 7 mt sail. But I can be wrong.

nonopr's experience seems right on. I weight 79kg and have an 08 111. For me, the 111 is a little big (rough ride in the chop) when the wind approaches 20 knots. I use my 7.6 if the wind is 15 - 18 knots and my 6.6 if over 18.

For you, the 111 and a 7.0 should be fine in the 14-17 knot range if you have steady winds, but you may need a larger sail if under 14 knots (7.5 - 8.5 range). It's a bit of a close call determining which board is best for you. It pretty much depends on the other boards that you may have and how the 101 or 111 fit into the line up.

I'm 80kgs and I have F111 2009 with a 7.5m V8 and 41cm Select RL7. I can get this kit planning in about 12 knots with slight back hand and foot pumping. The key to this kit is fins and adjustable outhaul. Once the 7.5m and F111 gets a bit of hand full I switch down to a F93 and 6.5m V8.

I've sailed a few versions of the 101 but not the 111. I'm 70kg. It is hard to say without comparing, but my thoughts after having sailed the 101 is that I would not gain much by going for the 111. 7.5 feels spot on on the 101 and you can use bigger too. At first the iSonics (and the 101) can feel kind of small and not good for early planing, but when you learn how to sail it is planes very early and then has a fantastic ability to glide through lulls. In my opinion, the trick it to very early get pressure on the fin. SO you can no pump to furiously at first. A few careful pumps and then when you feel some fin drive which helps lift the front part of the board out of the water. Then you can pump a bit harder "against the fin" to aid acceleration.

I don't compete, just "freeride" my slalom board. If I would compete a lot in light wind. I would probably go for 111 or even bigger. But for freeriding and also considering the total range of the board, I do think the 101 is the best size at my weight.

If you either prefer a more passive style or a more hard pumping sluggish style, the bigger 111 might get you going earlier. But if you develop the feel for the board, the 101 should plane about as year with a 7.5 and then offer a more controlled ride as soon as you are powered up. At least that is my guess after using the 101 (2007 and 2008).

I had the feeling that the 7.0 was already limiting top end on the 101. and in light wind against a 120 so I think a 111 too, it could no way compete.
So I was feeling that the really efficient range was very limited.
