Deboichet R17
Remi or anyone else,
I have an opportunity to pick up a Deboichet R17 70 S+6 in excellent condition at a good price. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this fin for my Starboard 160? I Race Formula about 6 events a year and free sail when wind winds are below 15 knots. I have a R13 70 M +6 and like it a lot for all conditions. The sails I use most with my 160 are 11.0, 9.2 and 8.4. I weigh 79kg. Is the R17 better for light winds than the R13 (under 15 knots)? What about stronger winds over 15 knots? Even in lighter winds, I sail in choppy conditions and if racing in over 20 knots, the chop can be extreme. I also will use a 7.4 and even a 6.6 sail in 25+ knot winds if racing. Thanks for any advice, Ken |
My opinion is stay with R13 M +6 for over 15 knots and try to find a R 13 S- (+6 ) for less wind (for your SB 160) , IT IS THE BEST COMBINATION !!!
The R17 I never liked with my 83 kg. |
Gre-969,
Thanks for your advice. I really don't need the fin, when I race in light winds, I do very well with the R13m. I don't race enough to justify a new fin, but a good price on a used one is worth considering, that's why I wanted to know more about the R17. Thanks, Ken |
Hey
i Have a deb R17, but in light wind, i change to the standard Drake R19, there it is way better. The R17 are faster, but when there are choppy water i often spinds out. maybe consider to get a drake R19, they are pretty cheap :-) Rune (starboard 161 codered 08 11m2) |
Compagter,
Thanks for the info. I passed on buying the R17 so I will stick with my R13 for a while. |
R17 works on F2 FX III & IV
R19 works on F161 & for some on F160 A question off tail width & rider's weight R13 works on every boards................. |
