Starboard Rio repairs

Hi all,

I recently purchased a new Starboard Rio and am a little disappointed by how easily the foam decking can get damaged. I try to be extra careful when sailing and transporting the board - but can't seem to avoid nicking the deck. Can you suggest how I can repair the nicks.

Thanks

Hi Christhom,
I have precisely the same problem on my '08 Rio M.
If you can, save any of the chunks/chips of EVA material that are cut out/damaged.
If you get some good foot pad glue or some marine grade contact cement,
you can glue the "chips" back into where they came from and glue the chips that
are still attached back in place.
It's unfortunate that the designers chose to "wrap" the EVA all the way down over
the rails as this makes it very easy for the soft EVA to get damaged.
My choice would have been to bring the EVA to the top of the radius of the rail and
then taper it off so that the rail is a double wrap of composite with paint over it.
That's not what they did, and we now have reall problems keeping our Rios looking
good.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Roger

Thanks Roger
Yes - the designers could have done a better job in deciding where to put the deck foam - do you or anyone from Starboard know how I can match the shade of blue. Maybe Starboard should sell a repair kit!
Thanks again

Hi unreg,
A very good idea about the repair kit!
I'll mention it to them.
Thanks!

Rio Repairs

I have recently purchased an 09 Rio/ fat face and after using just three times I have about 8 nicks in the EVA surface....suffice to say I cannot explain how one of them appreared...

i'm sailing on a reservoir so theres no major hazards/ obstacles...Iam falling off a lot ( and having fun) BUT can't help but feel a little upset about this issue.

In the UK you cannot get a secondhand Rio (only Vipers) so the residual value should be good BUT i'm dredding what it will look like in 18mths time.....

Any update on repair kits would be fab!

Hi,

I am also really interested to this thread. I'am looking for a piece of EVA deck material (in blue) to replace a piece that I lost in water. It is very small and was near the daggerboard, exactly within the rectangle that can be removed.

Do you know where can I buy it? Is there any repair kit to fix the pad?

Do you know which is the company that produced the EVA material. I can try to contact them for a piece.

Thanks in advance and good wind to all.

:(Thanks for the response guys - it is very frustrating and I worry what the board will look like in the future with the poor resilience of the decking. I don't have a solution yet - Any word on a repair kit STARBOARD???
Christhom
