Isonic 131

Hi,

I want to buy a early planing Isonic above my Isonic 122 ( 2008, 114 liters ).
I'm 87 kg.
I'm now surfing with:
* Isonic 105 ( 2006 ) with Tushingham X-15 sails ( 6,4m and 7,6 m )
* Isonic 122 with Tushingham X-15 7,6 m and with a Tushingham Lightning 8,5m
* Falcon slalom 145 ( 2007 ) with the Tushingham lightnings 8,5m and 9,4m.

I want to change the Falcon for a;
* Isonic 131 or a isonic 144.
Or must I go for the mini-formula Isonic 150?
In the past I have had a starboard Formula 159.
Nowadays I don't like the big formula boards anymore ( to heavy and to exhausting :o) .

Can you advise me.

Regards
Maarten

Hi Maarten,

Is it for race or just for fun?

All the best

isonic 131

Hi Remi,

The new isonic is just for the fun.
But I don't like the the formula style of surfing.
So I'm not sure about the isonic 150

isonic 131

Remi,

Not only the upwind qualities are very important for me but I also want to be fast in downwind runs.
I think that in lightwind conditions ( 9-14 knts ) the Isonic 150 is much slower than the 133 or 144.

Can anyone advise me ?

I like my new 131 iSonic. It is a super good board for light wind slalom for sails up to 10m. But also has when the right fin is selected great upwind ability, not formula like but enough for me to go up wind from one spot to the other no problem.
I think is the best boad I have in my quiver so far.

I'm still waiting from the answer of Remi.
My biggest sail is the Lightning 9,4m.
Is with that sail the early planing qualities of the isonic 150 so much better compared with the isonic 121/144 ?

You ask for advise.

isonic 131

Sorry nonopor. I appreciate your comment on the isonic 131. I think it is a good early planing slalom board for me.
But my next question : Is the isonic 150 not better for me considering the super early qualities of this board. Or is there not so much difference between these two boards for early planing with a 9,4 m sail.

Maarten

In my opinion a 9.4 sail will get a 122 going in that wind, but the 131 will hold it better and stay on planning speeds better. I have never use the 150 but I have a formula board that is about that same size a Mistral Devil and i think the difference will not be worth it.
Yesterday we had a graeat day here with less than 11 knots of wind and I was on my 131 with 8.0m sail an got it going and my friend was in a 133 with a 9.0 and he was going also. I wont buy a 150 for slalom. The reason is that the board was design just for crusing as the PWA rules dont allow a board that wide. I dont think it will be faster or any better than the 131. That is my opinion.
