Futura 93 or 101?
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a one board solution for medium to high wind. I'm thinking either the Futura 101 or 93. My current board is 106l and fairly easy to jibe. I read in reviews that the futuras were really stable while none planning so I am also considering the 93. I can water start no problem on both tacks, tack, occasionally get some air chophopping, and jibe on one side and occasionally on the other (depending on the wind). What I really want to know is: How much harder will the 93 be to jibe than the 101 (with 4 cm less width)? At my weight (55kg) will I still be able to take the 101 out in high wind? Is there a noticeable difference in top end speed between the two? Naturally a smaller board will be easier to jump, but is it also possible to jump the 101 quite easily? I wish I could test both boards out to answer these questions myself but unfortunately I can't, so I have to really on others' experience to make my choice. Thanks. |
Hi Agrelon,
With your weight and I supopse your 6mē sails, I recommand you the Futura 93. This board is particularly fast in choppy condition, easy to control, jibe and jump. All the best |
Thanks for the positive feed back. I think I will go for the 93 as I getting it for France, where the wind is much more stable than my year spot (hong kong). Also, I have a 4.7 which would probably work better on it than on the 101.
Cheers, can't wait to sail it maxed out! |
One more thing I forgot to ask, I saw the recommended sail range for the 93 was up to 6.5m, but I have cambered 7.2m for light winds.
I've never really sailed a board with a sail that was too big for it so I don't know what would feel wrong/not work. Would this setup be sailable? Would I need a bigger fin? Thanks. |
Hi Aigrelon,
This is not the sail to get the max performances on this board, but this will work with a 38 fin. All the best |
Agrelon,
I'm sure the Futura 93 is wide enough at the tail (40.5cm) to hold a 7.2 m2 sail + 38 cm fin with your XS light weight, but with a 4.7 m2 sail in 7 Bft, it could become a bit too wide underfoot. FYI, I use a Kombat 86 2006 with 4.2-6.9 m2 sail range in 12-30+ knots for my 183 cm x 65 kg and it's a dream in rough and choppy seas. Cheers ! JM |
Christine (62kg), tested a Futura 93+ North Warp 7.0m2 + Deboichet SL2 34 cm fin: very good combo indeed :
http://www.star-board.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5455 Smallest sail tested on Futura 93 and still a manageable combo for her light weight: 5.8 m2. For higher wind, she uses a Kode 80 with 3.7 - 4.7 m2 sail quiver range: http://www.star-board.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5746 Cheers ! JM |
Merci Jean-Marc! Bon, ca y est, je suis decide sur la 93, parceque mon dernier souci etait de pouvoir quand meme utiliser ma 7.2, ainsi que ma 4.7, que j'ai achete la saison derniere.
