Isonic 121 or 131
Been on CR6.5 and 8.1 with isonic 111.

For next year I'm going to go bigger 8.6. What would you recommend 131 or 121 ?

I savvy move will be to go to the 131 iSonic. that works great from 8.4m all the way to 10m sails with fins from 46 to 54cm.

Have small can you go. Would a 6.8 be far to small for the board ?
8.6 is probably the ideal size for the board, usually you have to take the smallest and the biggest recommended size away to still be comfortable.

Hi Fin
Sorry to cut in on the "ask our team".

If you intend keeping your iS111, then the iS131 would be perfect change up board for 8.6m and up to 10m. XL slalom really becomes fun when maxed out on 10m in light winds.

If you intend getting rid of your iS111, then go with the iS121. This will be good for 7.5m to 9m so will kinda tread into both iS111 and iS131 territory.

Yes, a 6.8m is way way to small for iS131, will be feeling bad:(

Remember, have 2 or 3 fins per board and you will nearly double a boards range. A good 44cm to 47cm on your iS111 and it would be good to go with a 8.6m.

One of my favourit combos is the iS111 and 9m/43cm fin. Im 105kg and it works from about 15k, nicely powered up:)

Yea, I sold my 111. And now I have to decide if I'm going for a one or two board tactic.
I do mainly formula so somehow it feels stupid to have a 131, but then on the otherhand slalom is becoming quit pop here in Finland so it would be nice to be competitive in the light stuff as well.
I even felt that the cr 6.5 was a little bit to small on the 111, anyway if 6.8 is powered up it's already windy.
Perhaps I'll go for the 121 and a 8.6. And if I become really keen I buy a 101 for the 6.8m2
Theese are really the hard decisions in life :)

Isonic 121 + 8.6 and iSonic 101 + 6.5/6.8 is gonna be fine for your 82 kg.

IMHO, iSonic 131 is only worth if you go to 9.5-10.0 sail territory for your weight.

Cheers !

I'm sorry to cut in as well. Take a look at the rider's comments about the Isonics on the Home Page. Everyone of them loves the Is 131! In marginal gusty conditions, in my opinion, the Is 131 will dominate a Is 121 if both sailors are using an 8.6 sq. meter sail, even if the sailor on the IS 131 is a fair bit heavier. If you're using this board for the marginal stuff when you're on and off the plane then the IS 131, IMO, is the ticket and it'll hold in there as the wind picks up. I own a '09 122 and I'm in the process of buying a carbon Is 131. I've sailed the Is 133 and it is amazing.

a 131 with a good fin like can work better than the 121 is the same condtions. I made the error of buying a 121 thinking it will work for my weight better than the 131 and now I sold that board and got a 131 and it is a lot better board for what I want to do.

I too sail formula, but my next board was a HiFly 105 move. I wanted something to fill the gap and I chose an '08 iS 111. While I love the 111, I am not 100% sure it was the best choice, but it does fit in well with my sail quiver. I weigh 79kg.

Do you have another board other than the formula? What sails do you have? What it your typical wind? It's hard to know which board to recommend unless we have a little more information. Sorry to say, but the 111 may have been your best option if you are trying to cover the broadest wind range. If you only sail in winds below 20 knots, then the 121 may be the answer.

My boards and sails for freeriding:

Formula 160 - 11.0, 9.2 and sometimes 8.4
iS 111 - 7.6, 6.6 and sometimes 8.4
HiFly 105 - 5.7, 5.0, 4.5
Tiga 263 - 4.5, 4.0

I compete in formula, and then I do slalom whenever it's over 7m/s. BUT if I'm going to compete in slalom as well I would probably need the 131, anyway the 111 would probably be the the best board if I only do slalom for fun. The problem is that I really like to compete :)
I also understood that the 133 is awesome. But the 131 would definitely require a smaller board to be able to enjoy the 20 + Knots winds. No money no funny..
