iSonic wood carbon 121 fin
Hello,
I am a team rider of 70kg. Just received my new 2010 iSonic 121. Will sail with 7.0, 8.0 (moslty) and 9.0 with this board. I would like to buy a Deboichet custom fin (maybe 2). The SL4 is recommended but I heard that the SL2 may be better. Which one would you recommend and which size ? Thanks. |
There are other great options if you want to look at it.
www.vectorfins.com look at the Canefire in sizes 42-44-46 cm. either in carbon molded or G-10 these are used by a few PWA racers. Another option is F4 fins www.f4fins.com the model is D2 and i will recommend in 46cm and 44cm carbon XS. |
Thanks nonopr,
So looks like you would recommend a 44 as a "fits all" option ? Not sure that it will work for 7.0 but certainly form 8.0 to 9.0. I also have a iSonic wood 101 and 86 for smaller sails and higher winds. Thanks. |
No I recommend two fins actually in 44cm and 46cm. Will be the best.
Bu if you dont have the money for 2 fins I might just buy a 44cm. But buying one fin will make your decision much harder as you need to buy a great fin. Starboard recommends a Deboichet, Personaly I dont like them. But you know have 3 good choices in your lap. |
Thanks a lot. Which brand is your favorite and why ? I have been using Deboichet fins so far and was quite happy but open for new options if they work better with the new iSonic boards ... the F4 look pretty good ... but 4-6weeks lead time ? I am racing in both lake and sea waters (flat and choppy slalom and sometines long distance races).

you can contact jeff from Vector fins at jeff@vectorfins.com
Did you tlk to Ben in F4 for me has never been that long for a fin there. usually about 2 weeks. |
Hi,
The Canefire is an awsome fin and suits the I Sonics well and this is the fin i use in my own I Sonics in the larger fin sizes (38cm to 50cm). For your sail sizes if you were going to get 2 fins i would get a 42cm for your 7.0/8.0m and a 46cm for your 9.0m. It would be better to get two fins for the board as then you will be able to cover a bigger range of conditions than just one fin |
Many thanks for your good advice guys.
I will contact Jeff. All the best. |
Hello,
I have just received my Canefire 42 and 46 but was disappointed to discover that the G10 version was shipped instead of the carbon. I e-mailed Jeff and I'm waiting on his advice. Obviously it will be complicated to send them back and wait another 2-3 weeks to get new ones. Question: is there a big difference between the carbon and G10 ? Does it make a big difference on my iSonic 121 performance ? I'm a Swiss team rider racing in slalom mostly on choppy lake waters but also on the sea in long distance races. Thanks for your advice. |
I have both versions. The G10 is what the team uses.
You are good. |
