Sail set for iSonic 111
I am using an iSonic 111 with 2 sails (6.8 and 7.8). The sails are Loft SwitchBlade (2 cams and more racy feeling than other 2 cams sails from another brands).
In these months I've experimented that the 6.8 isn't very used because it's very close in wind range with my wave sails (5.4) and I prefer then for more choppy conditions.
The 7.8 is my favorite sail, offer me a lot of more days of windsurf being a perfect combination with the board, but I've tried a full Slalom sail and I've seen that the high wind range that offer 4 cams is considerably wide and still feels easy to sail for me.
In this situation, I'm planning to change my sail set and need help to get all the board's potential between 11 to 22 knots with 2 sails.
I'm 180 cm tall and 82 kg.

Thaks a lot and good wind

Hi Silversurfer,

You can choose from 7 to 8.6 to get the best results for this board

If you hoose only one sail that will be the 7.8

Hope this help

All the best

Yep a 7.6 sail is great in this board. with a 42cm fin.

Thx nonopr, which range in knots offer you the 7.7?

I can use the sail from about 13-14 knots all the way to about 19-20 knots confortably. Maybe with a smaller 40cm or 38 cm I can use it to about 22-23 knots.
I use it like that to make sure I have power after a crowded jibe in the bouys. Planes really quick and has pleanty of top end for real racing.
If I have to go to 7.0m2 I will use my iSonic 101 instead with a 36-38cm fin for 18knots all the way to 25 knots.
The sails I use are TR-6 from MauiSails. Canefire Fins from Vector Fins Carbon Molded and F4 Fins the D2.

thanks a lot nonopr
Do you use the 111 with anything bigger? What's the range of it.

nonopr 23rd June 2010 07:09 PM

No I haven't but I am very sure that it would hold the TR-6 8.4m sail. I just find it to much effort to hold this big sail when i can use it with my Carbon iSonic 131. No reason to use it. But I can probably put a 8.0m MS Titan with two cambers and that will be fun for sure

I have an '08 iS 111. I weigh 78kg. The perfect sail is my Maui Sails TR4 7.6. I use my 6.6 on occasion, but it is a pretty rough ride when the wind get over 20 knots. I occasionally use my TR 8.4 on it and when powered (12-15 knots). it is very comfortable. If you have steady winds, the 8.4 will work great. I only use one fin, a Tectonics Tomcat 42 which is great. A little small for the 8.4 and a little large for the 6.6but a good one fin compromise.

My next larger board is a formula 160, so if I need the 8.4, I usually choose the formula board and a 9.2. Where I sail it is very gusty and slogging on the iS 111 and 8.4 is not fun.

If you are highly skilled and race slalom, then the 7.6 and 8.4 would cover you best. If you are advanced and just freeriding, the the 7.6 and 6.6 would probably be better.

When the wind gets over 20 knots, I prefer to go to my 105 bump and jump board and a 6.0.

I hope this helps.
