I understand your point of view and for sure it is much easier with a smaller fin especially off the wind in stronger winds and you can sail it in shallower water.

In the olympics sailing has a range of boats to represent the sport.

Sheeting in the sail can depower the sail but it depends on where the wind is comming from.

Doing a quick sheet in movement puts presure on the back of the sail helping to put presure on the back...
