A good friend of mine has the SB Formula...

A good friend of mine has the SB Formula Experience board which is a Formula 160 in a way more durable construction. It is noticably heavier than my old 160 and my current 162 of course, but it seems...

Hmm. I have yet to see a used 162 for sale. While I did not use the 161 I am very very happy with my 162, currently faster and getting better angle than with my 160 even without being fully trimmed...

But last year was heavy wind and even Micah?...

But last year was heavy wind and even Micah? landing a top spot, right. Antoine seems to hand it to anyone with enough wind. I remember Jesper Vesterstrom writing that he struggled severely with the...

That will be really hard to get. It seems like it takes quite a bit of time (and fin experimenting) to get a board to really perform at 100%, and I find it hard to imagine any objective tester to put...

I can't help but think that you're still running...

I can't help but think that you're still running your boom way too low. I'm 190cm and never run the boom at chin height unless I'm very powered up/overpowered on my 9.5, and buy then it's 22-24 knots...

Huh? I guess it might depend on where you read.

Sure, as it's not the current "next big thing" the way slalom is and super-x was a few years ago the big brands marketing machine isn't pimping...

RE: wish carbon maui or x9???

I've had both NP X9 260-310 and now MS 265-310. I'm definitely not looking back now; the MS is imo great!

RE: Fins: what is TT, R & so on..

With regards to Deboichet fins the Rxx is the model name; R13, R14, R17, R19 etc are all different foils. The stiffness is most often M or S with additional subcategories like +, -, -- etc. The rake...

RE: Which alu booms for formula experience?

None... The Nautix seem to be pretty popular though, but some (like Remi as he mentioned elsewhere) chose to run a string/strap throigh the sail between the boom arms to stiffen it up.

RE: F161

I use Google.com advanced settings to only search for whatever I'm looking for within the SB (and similar) websites. It works pretty well I think.

For instance you can type: 160 161...

RE: Pros and cons of smaller sails on Formula

Well, even a drafty freerace sail is "small" at 8.5 when using it on a fw board. There is no doubt that you would gain both early planing (even though what you get with the 159/8.5 beats your S-Type...

RE: Formula for freeriding

I'd say pick up one of the 160's that are for sale in Denmark at the moment. Alternatively I actually think that Surfline in Aarhus has a used FF148 around that you could take a look at. While a 160...

RE: F160 and R19

I wouldn't know about the Drake R19 but the Deboichet R19 (in the S-- +8 configuration) works well on the F160 in low winds, though I'd believe it overpowers pretty soon with a 73kg rider. In less...

RE: Rio, Go or Apollo

It would be a better choice than the Apollo (as that board is a pretty specialized piece of equipment that takes some skill to get the most from) but not a whole lot. Formula boards (and the Apollo)...

RE: Kashy Formula Fins XXS

It's not so much the price I see a a problem; imo the problem is the availability even if you can afford them. Most often a garage operation doesn't turn out enough fins to satisfy demand, even if...

RE: F160 with smaller sail (10m2)

I'm on a 160 and somewhat your size (190cm/95kg) and find that I am not getting on anything like a 10 or smaller unless it consistently blows more than 10 m/s. I'm using Gaastra Vapors. Most formula...

RE: Kashy Formula Fins XXS

I think Expander raises a really important point here. While I am as guilty as any (I own Deboichet and Kashy fins) I agree that the lack of availability and the way some of these fins are being...

RE: Stop Formula XXL Sails!

I really don't see the problem. It's not like you're forced to use a big sail if you don't want to. Besides, some lighter sailors have proved very competitive without the largest sails. Jesper V...

RE: Remi - Thoughts on best footstraps

I have the same problem with my 160, even with very skinny feet. I use the Dakine Core contour straps; the ones that are normally sold in a 3-pack with a specialized mid-back strap for waveboards....

RE: Fin for F160 non racer

Yes, the Drake fin that came with the 159 probably has too little rake for the 160, especially at your weight. The one that comes with the 160 is actually a lot better (no, not as good as a...

RE: Brand question

Haven't seen any tests of the 07 sails yet. Normally the manufacturers are pretty good at linking (at least the favorable..) tests from their websites when they are published in magazines.
