Hi,

You don't need to lower the boom nor buy a "waterstarter." Just place the foot of the sail on top of the (back) board before starting and you should have no problems. I use that method f. ex....

I made a bet with a friend about that. I believe with my Severne NCX 9.0 and a suitable fin it could be possible if I find flat water somewhere when it blows 15-20 knots.
The bet was a 2 sec peak...

Yes I did. The difference isn't that big you could think. Of course tacking and jibing is a bit wobblier especially if there's any waves but the ride itself feels basicly the same. I feel it planes...

There's a huge difference between your 52 cm Drake and f.ex. 59 cm freeride/-race fins, been there done that.

I have now in my 155 go both 52 Drake and 59 cm Tekknosport and with my 9.0 Gator...

The "shallow" 41 Drake is a normal Tuttle Box fin. 41 cm deep and pretty wide to get max power out of it. There's no centerboard option in Go 155. At least not in mine Go 155 ;)

The finbox in Rio is deep tuttle but the original Drake fin is with tuttle box adjustment. I have 59 cm tekknosport deep tuttle fin which I had to grind a bit from the forward edge to make it fit...

I have a 2007 Rio M and need about 6 m/s to get planing with my 9.0 Gator and 59 cm fin. I´m 95 kg and zero pumping skills:( Buy +9m2 sail and about 60 cm fin and you should be blasting on 12 knots.
